The Opportunity

We are currently looking for an Intermediate Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Senior Corporate Accountant you are a key member of the Nova Scotia Power Finance team. As an Intermediate Accountant, you will play an important role in supporting the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of financial reporting while helping ensure the organization meets its reporting and compliance obligations.

Key elements of this role include:

Taking ownership of assigned month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, ensuring financial information is recorded accurately and delivered within reporting timelines.
Prepare, review, and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving outstanding items to support accurate financial records.
Perform financial analysis and variance reporting, providing insights that help management understand business performance and trends.
Support compliance and internal control requirements, helping maintain the integrity and consistency of financial reporting processes.
Collaborate with Finance teams, business units, and project stakeholders to gather information and ensure accurate period-end reporting.
Prepare and post accounting transactions and adjustments while ensuring the completeness and accuracy of financial data.
Assist with internal and external reporting requirements, including support for quarterly reviews and annual audit activities.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes through standardization, automation, and increased efficiency.
Contribute to special projects, business initiatives, and ad hoc accounting assignments that support organizational objectives.
Provide cross-functional team support and backup coverage while helping maintain a collaborative and effective Finance environment.

These skills will make you successful:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum two years of accounting experience with exposure to financial reporting, reconciliations, or financial analysis.
CPA designation completed or in progress is considered an asset.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information, identify trends, and provide clear recommendations.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with financial reporting systems; experience with Oracle Fusion is an asset.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across different levels of the organization.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in a deadline-driven environment.
Proven problem-solving abilities and a continuous improvement mindset with an interest in streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and contribute positively within a collaborative team environment.
Sound business acumen, customer focus, and a proactive approach to delivering high-quality results.
