NOTE: This position is for local candidates only. No agencies or international applications will be considered.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the COO, the Senior Accountant will own the day-to-day accounting function and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting for a fast-growing e-commerce and CPG business.
This is a hands-on operational accounting role. The successful candidate will be responsible for month-end close, cash flow reporting, bank and credit card reconciliations, inventory reconciliation, AP/AR oversight, coordination with external payroll, CRA communication, and support for auditors, external accountants, and other financial related tasks.
The ideal candidate has strong full-cycle accounting experience, excellent attention to detail, strong Excel skills, and the ability to keep financial operations moving in a fast-paced environment with limited handholding.
This is an operational accounting role requiring both technical expertise and a willingness to work directly with the details.
We're looking for someone who takes ownership, works independently, identifies problems before they escalate and consistently delivers accurate financial information.
Experience in an inventory-based business is essential. Familiarity with e-commerce accounting and NetSuite will be particularly valuable.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities (if this list looks exciting to you, click Apply Now):
Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Own and manage the monthly and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets and cash flow reports.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepayments and general ledger reconciliations.
- Maintain detailed supporting schedules for balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare monthly budget-to-actual variance analyses, investigate discrepancies and communicate findings to management.
- Ensure financial records comply with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
- Coordinate year-end accounting activities and support external accountants, auditors and financial reviews.
Inventory and E-commerce Accounting
- Oversee inventory accounting, including inventory valuation, landed costs, Cost of Goods Sold and inventory adjustments.
- Perform monthly inventory financial reconciliations and coordinate detailed quarterly inventory reconciliations.
- Reconcile marketplace transactions, including Amazon, Shopify, Walmart and other sales channels.
- Maintain accurate accounting for supplier deposits, inventory in transit and manufacturing-related costs.
- Investigate and resolve inventory and financial discrepancies in collaboration with Supply Chain and Operations.
Cash Flow and Financial Analysis
- Prepare and maintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast.
- Monitor cash balances, expected collections, upcoming payments and other financial obligations.
- Support management with cash flow projections, working capital analysis and financial planning.
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasts and financial performance analysis.
Accounting Operations and Internal Controls
- Supervise and support the Accounts Payable and Receivable Clerk.
- Oversee bank, credit card and line-of-credit reconciliations.

- Support improvements to accounting processes and financial reporting within NetSuite.
Tax, Compliance and External Reporting
- Prepare and reconcile applicable indirect tax filings, including HST (Harmonized Sales Tax), and coordinate submissions.
- Coordinate with external accountants on corporate tax filings and compliance requirements.
- Prepare financial schedules, supporting documentation and ad hoc reports as required.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive, full-cycle accounting experience.
- Demonstrated experience independently managing month-end close processes and preparing financial statements.
- Strong experience with inventory accounting, including inventory valuation, landed costs and Cost of Goods Sold.
- Experience with general ledger accounting, financial reconciliations and balance sheet management.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP and financial data analysis.
- Experience working with an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system or comparable accounting software.
