Original job description

Food Science Technologist - St. Stephen, NB

Who We Are

Founded in 1873, Ganong stands as Canada's oldest family-owned and operated chocolate company. With a rich heritage and unwavering commitment to quality, we proudly produce our renowned confections in Canada’s Chocolate Town - St. Stephen, New Brunswick.

Driven by our purpose to inspire life’s sweetest moments, we continue our long-standing tradition of crafting high-quality confections while delivering unique value to our customers. Guided by our core values of safety, integrity, boldness, quality, heritage, and fun, we foster a culture where people and ideas thrive.

The Role

Reporting to the Food Science Supervisor, the Food Science Technologist plays a key role in bringing new product ideas to life, improving existing confections, and supporting innovation through the application of food science and technology.

In this hands-on role, you'll be involved in every stage of product development, from formulation and testing to product trials and commercialization. Working closely with Operations, Quality Assurance, Sales, and external partners, you'll help ensure our products meet Ganong's high standards for quality, food safety, and manufacturing excellence.

You'll also contribute to Ganong's Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program by supporting research activities, technical testing, and documentation.

The Opportunity

Join Ganong and become part of our story, where crafting confections to inspire life's sweetest moments is at the heart of everything we do. Guided by our commitment to quality, innovation, and heritage, we offer a collaborative and inclusive workplace where creativity and continuous improvement are encouraged.

As a Food Science Technologist, you'll have the opportunity to turn ideas into products, explore new ingredients and technologies, and contribute to the future of an iconic Canadian chocolate company. From developing exciting new confections to improving the products our customers already love, your work will make a meaningful impact.

Who You Are

You're a curious, creative, and detail-oriented food science professional who enjoys turning ideas into practical solutions. You're passionate about product development, enjoy hands-on experimentation, and take pride in creating safe, high-quality products.

You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy working across departments to solve challenges, improve processes, and bring new products to life. You're equally comfortable conducting product trials, analyzing results, and preparing technical documentation.

Organized, adaptable, and solutions-focused, you bring a continuous improvement mindset and aren't afraid to explore new ideas or challenge the status quo.

Key Responsibilities

Develop new products and improve existing formulations based on customer needs, emerging trends, and manufacturing capabilities.
Support product development from initial concept through formulation, testing, trials, and commercialization.

Develop and maintain product specifications, formulations, and technical documentation.
Conduct product trials and analyze ingredients and finished products to evaluate quality, consistency, and performance.
Research new ingredients, technologies, and opportunities for product innovation.
Support Ganong's Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program through technical research, data collection, and documentation.
Collaborate with Operations to troubleshoot manufacturing challenges and support the successful transition of new products into production.
Identify and support process improvements that enhance product quality, efficiency, and reduce waste.
Work closely with Quality Assurance, Sales, suppliers, and customers to support product development and resolve technical inquiries.
Ensure product development activities align with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Diploma or bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field required.
2–3 years of experience in food research and development, product development, or quality assurance within a food manufacturing environment considered an asset.
Understanding of Canadian and U.S. food regulations and food safety standards.
Knowledge of food manufacturing processes, product formulation, and ingredient functionality.
Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
A collaborative, adaptable, and innovative mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
Experience in chocolate or confectionery manufacturing, Lean manufacturing, or SR&ED documentation considered an asset.

Join our Sweet Team

Become an integral part of Ganong as our Food Science Technologist, where creativity, boldness, and quality come together to create confections that inspire life's sweetest moments.

If you're passionate about food science, love solving challenges, and want to play a hands-on role in developing the next generation of Ganong confections, we'd love to hear from you!

If this sounds like the perfect next step in your sweet career path, apply online today.

We're actively reviewing and interviewing eligible candidates on a rolling basis, so don't delay submitting your application. We appreciate all applicants' interest, but only those selected for interviews will be contacted.
