Journeyman Red Seal Carpenter Instructor

Location: St. Albert, AB Company: Omnia Training Job Type: Full-Time

About Omnia Training

Omnia Training is a leading workforce development and vocational training organization dedicated to providing hands-on, industry-driven training programs. We work closely with employers, Indigenous communities, government agencies, and industry partners to develop skilled workers for Alberta's workforce. Omnia Training is looking for an experienced Journeyman Red Seal Carpenter who is ready to share their knowledge, mentor the next generation, and make a lasting impact in Alberta’s skilled trades workforce.

This role is ideal for a carpenter who may be considering retirement, semi-retirement, or a transition away from physically demanding site work - while still staying active in the trade.

Instead of being on the tools every day, you’ll use your years of experience to teach, coach, and guide students as they build confidence, safety awareness, and real hands-on carpentry skills. We are currently seeking an experienced Journeyman Red Seal Carpenter Instructor to support the delivery and development of our Carpentry Training Programs and future Apprenticeship Technical Training initiatives.

Position Summary

The Journeyman Red Seal Carpenter Instructor will be responsible for delivering classroom, shop, and practical field instruction while mentoring students in a safe and professional learning environment. The successful candidate will bring extensive carpentry experience, strong communication skills, and a passion for developing the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver carpentry theory and practical training to adult learners.
  • Instruct students in safe work practices, tool usage, framing, foundations, concrete work, finishing, and construction techniques.
  • Develop and maintain lesson plans, training materials, and practical exercises.
  • Evaluate student performance through written, practical, and competency-based assessments.
  • Ensure all shop and training activities comply with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Maintain training equipment, tools, and instructional materials.
  • Support curriculum development aligned with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) standards.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to students to support successful employment outcomes.
  • Participate in program planning, continuous improvement, and industry engagement activities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Journeyman Carpenter Certificate.
  • Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).
  • Minimum 5 years of carpentry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of residential and commercial construction practices.
  • Experience with blueprint reading, construction math, estimating, and building code requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.

Preferred

  • Previous teaching, mentoring, coaching, or instructional experience.
  • Experience delivering apprenticeship or pre-apprenticeship training.
  • Adult education, instructional design, or training certifications.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, newcomers, or diverse learner groups.
  • First Aid, CSTS 2020, WHMIS, Fall Protection, and Ground Disturbance certifications.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation based on qualifications and experience.
  • Flexible employment arrangements (full-time, part-time, or contract).
  • Opportunity to help shape future apprenticeship and skilled trades programming.
  • Modern training facility with classroom, shop, and practical training environments.
  • Supportive team focused on student success and workforce development.

How to Apply

Please submit:

  • Resume
  • Journeyman and Red Seal credentials
