Director of Training & Coaching Development
One Health Clubs· Mississauga, ON (on-site) ·Full-time · Personal Training
About One Health Clubs
One Health Clubs is a premium health and fitness club in Mississauga. Personal training is at the heart of what we offer, and we're investing in making it the best in the GTA.
About the role
We're looking for a Director of Training & Coaching Development to set the standard for how our trainers coach and to build the system that makes every trainer on our team better, from new hires to experienced coaches.
This is not a general fitness manager or sales role. You are the technical head of coaching at OHC, leading the coaching quality of a department of 25+ trainers. You do not carry your own client book; all of your time goes to developing our trainers. The trainers report to you, and you lead them through the Coaching Standard, on-floor evaluations, technical coaching and level sign-offs.
What you'll own
- The quality of every session: sharper execution on the floor, the right intensity, stronger program design and better cueing.
- OHC's trainer development system: a full curriculum, with modules, quizzes and practical sign-offs, that turns new hires with great personality, values and culture fit into excellent trainers, and keeps every current trainer on the team getting better.
- Client results: members who make visible progress stay, renew and refer.
Key responsibilities
- Set the OHC Coaching Standard for assessment, program design, session structure, intensity, exercise selection, cueing, progression and reassessment.
- Build OHC Trainer University, a full development curriculum for every trainer, from onboarding for new hires to ongoing modules that sharpen our current team at each trainer level, with video and reading, quizzes, practical demonstrations and sign-offs.
- Evaluate trainers on the floor during real sessions, scoring them against the Coaching Standard and giving specific feedback the same day.
- Audit client programs for fit with goals, progression, variety and reassessment timing.
- Coach the coaches through one-on-one technical coaching and a monthly all-trainer seminar on topics such as cueing, intensity, special populations, programming, behaviour change and client communication.
- Sign off on trainer levels by defining the technical skills required at each of our six trainer levels.
- Help hire and onboard trainers, including running practical coaching assessments, with the focus on personality, values and coachability.
Who you'll work with
You'll report to the Director of Fitness and Operations and work closely with the leaders who run the business side of our training department, including our Training Sales Director. You own how trainers coach; they own how trainers build and run their client book. Every trainer's development plan has one technical goal and one business goal, and you'll work together to move both.
Your schedule is mostly weekday daytime hours, with some early mornings, evenings and Saturdays as needed to observe trainers during peak training times. Roughly 40% of your week is spent on the floor observing and evaluating trainers.
Your first year
The first six months are about building the system; the second six are about running it and proving it works. In your first 30 days you'll observe every trainer, audit client programs, lead your first team seminar and deliver a written assessment of the department. By month 6, the OHC Coaching Standard, evaluation scorecard and core new-hire curriculum are live. From month 7, every new hire goes through the curriculum and level-based development modules launch for the whole team.
How success is measured
Your quarterly bonus is tied to set-up milestones in your first six months, then to clear measures of coaching quality and client results, with targets set in writing before each quarter.
Compensation and benefits
- Base salary of $80,000–$90,000 a year, depending on experience
- Quarterly performance bonus of 15% of base at target, up to 25% at stretch
- Total pay of about $92,000–$103,500 a year at target, and up to $112,500 at stretch
- Full-time benefits program
- Paid vacation
- Annual education allowance for courses and certifications
- Complimentary One Health Clubs membership
- Discounts on club services
What you bring
You're an excellent coach first, and a proven teacher of coaches who can build a system other trainers can follow.
Must have:
- A degree in Kinesiology or a related field
- A recognized certification such as CSEP-CPT, NSCA-CSCS or equivalent
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid
- 7+ years of hands-on personal training, with strong programming, cueing and session delivery
- Deep, practical knowledge across training methods, modalities and equipment
- A track record of developing or mentoring other trainers, with results to show for it
- Clear, direct communication: you give specific feedback and get buy-in
Strong advantage:
- You've built a training curriculum, certification or education program
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary or course-provider level
- Experience leading seminars, workshops or group education sessions
Our hiring process
Our process includes a practical assessment: you'll coach a live session, then observe and critique one of our trainers. To apply, send your resume and a short cover letter telling us about a trainer you've developed and what changed for them.
