Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented professional to join our team as a Senior Financial Analyst.

Reporting to the Finance Controller, the Senior Financial Analyst will provide financial leadership and analytical support across a broad range of planning, reporting, forecasting, and decision-support activities. This role is integral to the annual business planning process, monthly budget-to-actual reporting, forecasting, variance analysis, client support, and project-related financial analysis.

The successful candidate will lead complex budgetary and financial analyses; prepare clear, accurate, and timely financial reports and forecasts; and maintain critical information within OPG’s finance systems and databases. They will develop financial models and executive-level reporting to support senior leadership, provincial ministries, and boards.

In addition, the Senior Financial Analyst will conduct economic and financial analyses to inform business cases, evaluate strategic alternatives, and support ad hoc decision-making. The role requires strong business acumen, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to translate complex financial information into meaningful insights and recommendations for stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities

Develops and recommends strategies, policies, procedures and guidelines through research, analysis and input from stakeholders in the area of general accounting practices.
Maintains a professional awareness in relation to current accounting practice, GAAP and general business environment, the utility industry to communicate impacts and implications throughout the business.
Conducts investigations into specialized accounting areas or needs and prepares procedures that balance all stakeholder needs.
Reviews line's accounting practices and provides a due diligence assessment as to the accuracy, consistency and appropriateness of analysis and conclusions being reached.
Provides management reports utilizing financial systems and other inputs and assists line managers in interpretation of financial and operational results.
Ensures the integrity of the decision support process through supporting the preparation and review of business case summaries.
Supports the development and implementation of on-going and new system needs and performs periodic reviews of financial systems and processes to identify opportunities for improved productivity.
Provides line managers with advice, guidance and support for business planning, budgeting, reporting, performance projections, resource forecasts, and internal control.
Manage financial responsibilities associated with joint operating agreements, including New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Hydro-Québec.

Qualifications

4-year University degree in Business, Economics or Accounting and CPA designation.
Minimum of 8 years of progressive finance, accounting, financial planning, or business analysis experience within a complex, large-scale organization.
Demonstrated experience leading or supporting annual business planning, operating budget development, forecasting, and monthly budget-to-actual reporting cycles.
Advanced financial analysis and modelling skills, including variance analysis, trend analysis, cost management, investment evaluation, and development of business cases.
Proven ability to partner with operational leaders and serve as a trusted finance contact, translating complex financial information into practical advice, recommendations, and actions.
Experience preparing, presenting, and explaining financial performance reports to management and other senior stakeholders.
Knowledge of project finance, including project reporting, cost analysis, financial evaluations, investment assessments, and monitoring project performance against approved plans.
Strong understanding of financial systems, reporting tools, planning applications, and data management practices, with an ability to identify and implement process and reporting improvements.
Experience managing financial activities involving multiple stakeholders or shared-cost arrangements, including reconciliations, invoicing, cost allocation, and coordination with external partners.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across operations, finance, external organizations, and other internal stakeholders.

Important Information

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
