Electrify your career and help build a brighter tomorrow.

Every generation has a challenge that defines them. At OPG, we are calling on all innovators, disruptors, thought leaders and change-makers. Join us as we work to electrify life in one generation and build a sustainable future powered by our electricity, our ideas, and our people. Join OPG and make history.

Whether you work in the skilled trades or are a business professional, a career at OPG is an opportunity to electrify your life on -- and off -- the job.

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Sr Mgr, SMR Development.

Job Overview

We are looking to hire a strategic and results-driven business development professional to join our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Services team in the role of Western Canada Client Manager.

Reporting to the Head of Strategy and Business Development for SMR Services, the Western Canada Client Manager will be responsible for driving the growth of OPG’s SMR Services business in Saskatchewan and supporting SMR projects across Canada and Europe. As one of three Client Managers within this growing business, the successful candidate will develop market and client strategies, build and maintain strong relationships with industry and government stakeholders, identify and pursue new business opportunities, develop proposals, negotiate contracts, and ensure successful client outcomes.

The role requires the ability to operate effectively at both strategic and operational levels in a business that delivers consulting services and pursues large, complex, multi-year partnerships within the emerging SMR sector. Working closely with technical, commercial, legal, and executive stakeholders, the Client Manager will contribute to business development initiatives, overall growth strategy, contract negotiations, and communications supporting the expansion of OPG’s SMR Services business.

The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated experience in business development within a complex industry, with a proven ability to independently represent their organization to senior external stakeholders, including government officials and C-suite executives. Strong client relationship management, proposal development, negotiation, and executive communication skills are essential. Experience supporting new ventures, business growth initiatives, or entrepreneurial environments will be considered an asset.

This role involves regular travel throughout Western Canada, approximately one week per month, as well as attendance at industry conferences and events. Experience and established relationships within Saskatchewan’s business and government communities are considered strong assets. While not required, a willingness to support the establishment of a permanent Saskatchewan presence would be beneficial. Initially, the role will not have direct reports; however, Client Managers oversee shared resources and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across SMR Services. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to influence, inspire, and coordinate high-performing teams while remaining hands-on and adaptable in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

This is a unique opportunity to join an innovative and entrepreneurial business within OPG, helping advance clean energy solutions while building upon OPG’s industry-leading SMR experience. The role offers significant opportunities for professional growth and leadership as the SMR Services business continues to expand.

Key Accountabilities

Drive the growth of OPG’s SMR Services business by identifying, developing, and securing revenue-generating opportunities that support the deployment of Small Modular Reactor technology in Western Canada.
Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders across power generation organizations, infrastructure investors, project developers, and government stakeholders to advance business opportunities and strengthen OPG’s market presence.
Lead client engagement activities, including opportunity development, proposal support, and the negotiation of contracts and commercial agreements in collaboration with Commercial and Legal teams.
Develop and maintain a strong understanding of SMR technologies, electricity markets, generation assets, and industry trends to effectively represent OPG’s capabilities and provide strategic business and commercial advice.
Monitor and assess developments in the nuclear, energy, and policy landscape, integrating market intelligence, business insights, and analysis into strategic planning and decision-making.
Support strategic development initiatives by conducting opportunity assessments, preparing business cases, briefing materials, and executive communications, and providing recommendations to senior leadership on emerging opportunities, challenges, and policy matters affecting OPG.
Lead or support cross-functional project and deal teams, working closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors to evaluate and advance strategic growth opportunities.
Deliver presentations, briefings, and recommendations to senior leadership, shareholders, clients, and partners, translating complex information into clear business insights and actionable strategies.
Provide professional leadership by fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance, while promoting best practices, employee development, and succession planning.
Ensure teams remain engaged, aligned with business objectives, and committed to delivering exceptional results in support of SMR Services’ growth and long-term success.
Champion a safe, healthy, and inclusive work environment while supporting the continued expansion of the SMR Services business.

Qualifications

We are seeking an entrepreneurial, tenacious, and curious professional with a passion for business building, innovation, and growth. The successful candidate will possess:

A bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; an MBA, Master of Finance, or other relevant graduate degree is considered an asset.
A minimum of six years of progressive experience in business development, strategy, investment banking, corporate development, or a related field, preferably within the energy, nuclear, utilities, infrastructure, or comparable sectors.
Demonstrated experience identifying, evaluating, and advancing growth opportunities, with nuclear industry experience considered a strong asset.
Strong leadership and stakeholder management capabilities, including experience leading, influencing, and motivating high-performing teams in dynamic and complex environments.
Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess opportunities, navigate ambiguity, and develop practical business solutions.
Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting demanding timelines.
Exceptional interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills, with the ability to establish credibility and collaborate effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives.
A strong sense of urgency, initiative, and accountability, coupled with the drive, energy, and resilience to succeed in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Experience and exposure within energy, power generation, utilities, infrastructure investment, or other capital-intensive industries is preferred.

The successful candidate will exhibit uncompromising integrity and commitment to upholding corporate values, and the OPG Code of Business Conduct.

OPG is committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and accessible environment. If you require accommodation during the selection process, please contact AODA@opg.com.

What makes a career at OPG different?

With operations across Ontario, OPG is one of the most diverse power producers in North America. As the largest generator in Ontario, we meet approximately 50% of the province’s electricity needs, largely from low-carbon sources like nuclear and hydro.

As we work to achieve our vision of Electrifying life in one generation, OPG and our family of companies are also helping advance the development of new low-carbon technologies such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), refurbishment projects, and electrification initiatives to help power the growing demands of a growing economy. Join OPG and make history.

The Darlington New Nuclear Project is leading the way in the advancement of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology in Canada – the future of nuclear power generation! Using new and innovative technologies such as small modular reactors, hydrogen and battery storage, while expanding our hydroelectric and nuclear portfolios, we are changing the electricity landscape in Ontario.

Important Information

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods. Maintaining a high-performance culture and excellence is a core expectation of every member of our leadership team and is rewarded through the established compensation framework.

OPG is committed to employment equity. As such, we encourage applicants from equity-seeking communities (Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, and women). We strongly believe that alleviating the under-representation of equity-seeking individuals will create a stronger OPG team and allow us to better serve the needs of our diverse communities.

In order to fulfill the above-mentioned purpose, priority in hiring may be given to qualified persons who self-identify as a member of equity-seeking groups as identified in the application process. This initiative constitutes a special program under the Human Rights Code/Canadian Human Rights Act.

All job postings at OPG are to fill existing vacancies within our organization.

OPG may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools as part of the applicant screening process. However, applications will also be reviewed by a member of our Recruitment team to ensure a fair and thorough assessment.

Please submit your application online at https://jobs.opg.com/. OPG thanks all those who apply; however, only candidates considered for an interview will be contacted.
