Original job description

About Us

At Onterris, we build careers grounded in purpose, responsibility and real-world impact.

“For Planet and Progress” is our north star that guides everything we do. We believe environmental responsibility and human progress are interconnected, interwoven and international. Our scientists, engineers, field teams, consultants and professionals collaborate across disciplines and geographies, guiding industries and governments, ensuring that communities and environments thrive.

When you join us, you’re not just forging a career, you’re joining a movement. A movement for better thinking, smarter solutions and lasting impact.

Together, we will advance our way of life and protect the integrity of our environment every step of the way.

As a Junior Hydrogeologist/Geologist, based out of our Calgary, or Edmonton, Alberta office, you will support a wide range of hydrogeology, groundwater, and environmental projects across our mining, infrastructure, energy and municipal sector work. Working closely with senior geoscientists and engineers, you will gain hands-on field experience while building your technical and regulatory expertise. You will be part of a strong team of committed professionals.

The compensation range for this role is $25.00 to $32.00, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location

To thrive in this role, you’ll be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:

Support technical and project delivery on a range of hydrogeology and groundwater projects, including hydrogeological assessments, contaminated site investigations, and regulatory groundwater monitoring programs
Participate in field programs, including soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring well installation, pumping and aquifer testing, and installation and data collection from groundwater monitoring equipment
Assist with borehole drilling program oversight, field logging, and sample chain of custody
Support development of conceptual site models and assist with data analysis, interpretation, and reporting of project results
Assist in preparing technical reports, work plans, and regulatory submissions under the guidance of senior staff
Develop working knowledge of relevant Alberta regulatory requirements
Travel to project sites across Alberta and beyond, with travel requirements of 50% or more depending on project needs

Your Expertise and Skills

These requirements reflect the knowledge, skills and abilities that help you do your best work here.

Ability to travel up to 50%+
Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management
Undergraduate degree in geology, hydrogeology, earth sciences, environmental engineering, or a related field
0 – 3 years of relevant experience, ideally within a consulting or field-based environment
Working understanding relevant Alberta Regulations, including the Alberta Government’s Guide to Groundwater Authorization, Guide to Water Act authorizations required for excavations (dugouts, borrow pits and other types of pits/excavation), and Alberta Contaminated Sites Policy Framework.
Groundwater field experience, such as sampling, monitoring well installation, and/or aquifer testing
Working knowledge of industry-standard software packages such as AQTESOLV, Surfer, GIS, etc. Knowledge of geomodelling and groundwater modelling software such as Leapfrog and FEFLOW are considered an asset.
Eligibility for registration as a Professional Geoscientist-in-training (GIT) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with a recognized Canadian licensing body (e.g., APEGA, EGBC) considered an asset
A valid and clean class 5 driver’s license with no restrictions
