Original job description

Who We Are

The ONxpress Civils Contractor General Partnership, a partnership between FCC Canada Limited and Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc., is a multidisciplinary Civils Joint Venture (CJV) team with global expertise in delivering innovative solutions for both railway and civil construction projects. Working under Alliance agreements with Metrolinx, the team is helping to modernize railway construction across the GO Transit network.

An Alliance framework, which is relatively new in Canada, is a collaborative partnership between the owner and contractor, who work together with a best-for-project mindset. By streamlining decision making, the Alliance helps ensure that high-quality work is delivered, certified, and transferred in a progressive, transparent, and risk-managed manner.

The Alliance operates with a core focus on safety, efficiency, and sustainability, while fostering strong relationships with stakeholders and rights-holders and contributing positively to local communities as a good neighbour. Through this collaborative approach, the Alliance is helping drive the modernization of key sections of the rail network as part of the GO Expansion Program.

If you're passionate about making a difference and want to be part of a progressive and modern way of working, we want to hear from you.

What You'll do

As a Senior Design Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in managing and guiding multidisciplinary design coordination activities across civil and structural works, ensuring alignment between design, construction, and client requirements.

Support and provide leadership to the Design Manager in overseeing daily design coordination activities.

Lead the civil/ trackwork constructability reviews of ONxpress design packages, working closely with Construction, Engineering, and Digital Delivery teams.

Manage and prioritize submittals, RFIs, design documents, and coordination deliverables to ensure timely review and approval.

Proactively identify design risks, ensure requirement compliancy, develop mitigation strategies, and escalate issues that may affect project success.

•Review design deliverables across project packages, coordinating with relevant teams to address gaps and potential impacts on design and construction schedules.

•Work closely with Design, Construction, Systems, and Digital Delivery teams to address interface requirements, constructability concerns, and construction sequencing.

Identify opportunities for early works based on third-party interfaces and collaborate with the Design Manager and Construction teams to develop implementation plans.

Champion integration with the Integrated Digital Delivery team to enhance design management, estimating, and construction planning processes.

Foster a highly collaborative environment between design and construction teams to efficiently resolve technical issues.

Conduct detailed constructability and interface reviews across multidisciplinary design packages to ensure alignment with project requirements and enabling works.

Monitor project progress by tracking deliverables, managing schedules, and providing status updates and recommendations to management.

Mentor and support junior design coordinators, promoting continuous learning and best practices in design management.

Liaise with delivery partners, consultants, and contractors to ensure seamless coordination and high-quality project delivery.

What You Bring

University or College Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related technical discipline.

Minimum 6–8 years of experience in design coordination within large, complex infrastructure projects.

Minimum 5 years of experience in a construction or project delivery environment.

Proven expertise in civil and trackwork; experience in transportation sectors (rail & transit, aviation, ports) is a strong asset.

Demonstrated leadership in managing multidisciplinary coordination processes and constructability reviews.

•Strong understanding of design development, construction sequencing, and technical interfaces between civil works and railway systems, with the ability to identify coordination gaps and propose practical solutions

Strong organization, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, large-scale project environment.

Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligibility for licensure is an asset.

Expected compensation for this role is between $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 annually. Base salaries are determined according to multiple factors including skills, experience and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into consideration. In addition to base salary ONxpress also offers a comprehensive medical and dental program, RRSP with company matching and the potential to participate in our discretionary, performance based bonus program.

This role is a newly created position.

As part of our commitment to fair and transparent hiring practices, ONxpress may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist in screening and reviewing candidates. These tools are applied responsibly and in accordance with applicable privacy laws and ONxpress’ AI Usage Policy. All final decisions are made by qualified ONxpress team members. Connect with us! This position is with ONxpress Civils (“CJV” aka the Design & Construction team); the project segment responsible for the modernization and modification of the key area network, including countless innovations in the way the regional rail infrastructure is built.

We value diversity and encourage all qualified individuals to apply, regardless of whether they meet 100% of the qualifications listed. If you believe you have the skills and passion to excel in this role, we welcome your application and the opportunity to consider you for the position.

We are an Equal Employer. Should you need any accommodation through the recruitment process, please contact cjv-talentacquisition@onxpress.com.
