Job Title: Senior Principal AI Architect
Job Location: Richmond Hill/ Waterloo, ON (Office based)
OpenText's AI Development and Enablement organization designs and delivers AI solutions that power customer-facing products, agents, and intelligent workflows. We work across the product portfolio, bringing new ideas into applications and building the shared AI technology that helps teams innovate faster.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Principal AI Architect, you will shape how OpenText builds and operates AI solutions across its product portfolio. Working with architects and engineering leaders across business units, you will tackle complex application challenges and turn emerging AI approaches into capabilities customers can use.
You will define solution architectures and the AI lifecycle and platform primitives needed to develop and operate them at scale. The role combines broad technical influence with hands-on experimentation: building proofs of concept, resolving difficult design choices, and guiding adoption across teams. Your work will help determine which approaches become shared capabilities and how OpenText's AI architecture evolves as models, frameworks, and customer needs change.
You Are Great At
- Leading architecture for complex enterprise AI solutions, including multi-agent systems spanning applications, services, and deployment environments.
- Establishing approaches to grounded context, agent harnesses, and multi-agent orchestration and choreography. Choosing appropriately among deterministic workflows, individual agents, and multi-agent systems, with reliable delegation, state management, failure recovery, and human oversight.
- Personally building proofs of concept and reference implementations to investigate difficult problems and establish technical direction.
- Architecting lifecycle capabilities and shared platform primitives for evaluation, versioning, deployment, observability, governance, and continuous improvement at scale. Enabling teams to assess and manage changes in models and agent behavior.
- Identifying common needs across products and defining reusable services and interfaces, balancing consistency across the platform with the flexibility individual applications require.
- Assessing models, frameworks, and emerging patterns through research and experimentation; guiding build-or-adopt decisions and trade-offs across quality, latency, cost, security, and operational complexity.
- Aligning architects and product leaders through design documents, diagrams, demonstrations, and technical debate; guiding adoption across business units.
What It Takes
- 12+ years in software engineering and architecture, including leadership of complex application initiatives. Enterprise platform and solution experience is highly desirable.
- Proven, recent hands-on experience architecting and delivering AI applications, with comfort developing in both Java and Python ecosystems. Ability to explain what you personally built and how evidence shaped your architecture decisions.
- Hands-on depth in relevant agent frameworks and working familiarity across LangChain/LangGraph, Google ADK, and alternatives, supported by experimentation and sound architectural judgment.
- Depth in contemporary agent patterns and methodologies: context assembly and memory, harness design, multi-agent coordination, tool integration, and interoperability through MCP and A2A.
- Current understanding of model capabilities, limitations, and economics, and experience shaping model selection and routing strategies.
- Experience using evaluations and production evidence to diagnose agent failures and guide changes. Architectural understanding of agent and tool permissions, untrusted inputs, and data boundaries.
- Deep application and cloud architecture expertise, including distributed systems, security, multi-tenancy, and lifecycle design for reliable operation at scale. Experience addressing enterprise integration and cloud, private, or customer-managed deployment requirements is particularly valuable.
- Evidence of establishing architecture or shared capabilities adopted by multiple teams, resolving production challenges, and influencing experienced architects and engineering leaders. Ability to mentor technical talent and build agreement across business units.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
