AI-First. Future-Driven. Human-Centered.

At OpenText, AI is at the heart of everything we do - powering innovation, transforming work, and empowering digital knowledge workers. We are hiring talent AI can't replace to help us shape the future of information management. Join us.

Role: Senior Software Developer

Location: Richmond Hill, ON (Office-based)

Digital Experience (DX) is the new marketing domain. 89% of companies plan to make Customer Experience their number one area of engagement by next year. Upgrading customer experience capabilities helps companies unlock new revenue streams and bolster existing ones, attract and retain clients, and reach new segments - all while driving higher conversion and engagement. OpenText’s rich portfolio of Web Content Management, Digital Asset Management, Customer Communication Management, and Workforce Optimization solutions offers exciting and compelling ways to address client needs in this area.

As part of OpenText’s Digital Experience organization, you will help deliver information management solutions that address real-world customer needs, balancing customer commitments and operational stability with modernization and long-term product health. You will also support modernization initiatives for OpenText’s XDDS fax platform, working across its established codebase while helping move it toward a cloud-native future.

Your Impact

The Senior Software Developer is a hands-on technical contributor and emerging technical lead who designs, develops, and supports Java and Spring Boot microservices running on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and helps modernize OpenText’s XDDS fax platform across its established multi-language codebase.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Software Developer, you will:

  • Develop and maintain existing products and services.
  • Deliver customer-requested features and roadmap enhancements.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues and performance bottlenecks.
  • Reduce technical debt and improve code quality.
  • Support security, compliance, and operational reliability objectives.
  • Collaborate with Product, Support, and Customer Success teams.
  • Own and deliver projects aligned with the team's quarterly cadence, from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, and production support, ensuring work contributes to client success.
  • Design, develop, and maintain Java and Spring Boot microservices on GCP, enabling incremental modernization without disrupting customer operations.
  • Decompose client problems into designs with multiple interacting software components, mastering code fluency fundamentals and applying secure coding, code reviews, automated testing, and API quality practices.
  • Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and improve service reliability, performance, observability, and recovery.
  • Support legacy XDDS fax platform modernization, including analyzing, enhancing, and troubleshooting existing C++, Java, Angular, shell, and Perl code, database interactions, and REST and SOAP interfaces, while preserving compatibility and service continuity.
  • Port and migrate legacy XDDS components from Solaris to Linux, adapting C++ code, build processes, scripts, and database connectivity, and validating functional and performance parity.
  • Build containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes for modernized and ported XDDS components and Java microservices, supporting portability, scalability, and consistent environments.
  • Contribute to CI/CD, deployment automation, and cloud-operational practices for Java services on GCP, working with partner teams to improve release consistency and reduce delivery risk.
  • Apply AI in day-to-day development work, such as AI-assisted coding, code review, and test generation, and validate AI-generated output for correctness, security, privacy, and value.
  • Serve as a technical lead, recognized for growing domain expertise, embracing change, and navigating ambiguity with resiliency, while fostering the development of less experienced team members through design discussions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Model integrity and excellence, influencing best practices within the team and leveraging your expertise.
  • Keep client value in focus, using input from others to determine appropriate technical solutions and making timely decisions without compromising trust.
  • Identify and address issues when the current path does not effectively serve client needs, collaborating with your manager on corrections.

What You Need To Succeed - Required Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing and supporting enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot, including RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Experience deploying, operating, and troubleshooting production services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with an understanding of cloud security, configuration, monitoring, and scalability.
  • Experience designing and implementing containerized solutions with Docker and Kubernetes, including images, deployment configuration, scaling, and troubleshooting.
  • Technical leadership capability, including hands-on implementation, design decision-making, code reviews, mentoring of less experienced developers, and cross-functional delivery.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, service integration, data persistence, reliability, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience with automated testing, Git-based source control, GitLab CI/CD pipelines, and secure software development practices.
  • Practical AI experience, including applying AI-assisted development tools to day-to-day development work or integrating AI capabilities into software solutions, with the ability to explain use cases, evaluate outputs, and manage associated risks.
  • Ability to work in a legacy multi-language codebase, including C++, shell and Perl scripts, Java, and Angular front ends, and to support modernization of the XDDS fax platform.
  • Experience porting or migrating applications from Solaris (UNIX) to Linux, including resolving platform-specific differences in C++ code, build tooling, scripts, and runtime environments.
  • Experience with relational databases, including Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server, and with building, consuming, and troubleshooting REST and SOAP web services and user interfaces.
  • Experience maintaining and modernizing established products while supporting customer commitments and production operations.
  • Clear communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs and collaborate effectively in an Agile team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience leveraging AI for day-to-day development work (a big plus).
  • Hands-on familiarity with Solaris and Linux administration, system calls, and build environments.
  • Experience with GCP container and serverless deployment options such as Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) or Cloud Run.
  • Familiarity with GCP data and messaging services, such as Cloud SQL and Pub/Sub, and with infrastructure as code.
  • Experience integrating generative AI or large language model (LLM) APIs into applications, including evaluation, monitoring, and appropriate data handling; familiarity with Vertex AI is a plus.
  • Experience incrementally modernizing established applications into cloud-native services while preserving compatibility and service continuity.

Business Impact

Protects retention revenue, sustains product roadmaps, improves customer satisfaction, and enables strategic growth teams to focus on AI and new market opportunities.
