Role: Senior Software Developer

Location: Richmond Hill, ON/ Ottawa, ON, Canada (Office- based/On-site)

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Backend Software Developer to join our development team at OpenText. Our team builds and evolves a public, multi-tenant Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) cloud offering, whose backend services are built primarily in C++ and Java. This secure, high-availability platform is trusted by healthcare, financial, and government organizations, and is designed to meet stringent security and compliance requirements, including FedRAMP and PCI DSS. We seek highly qualified professionals who have strong programming and design skills and are willing to participate actively in the definition and constant improvement of the applications we develop. We work in an Agile (Scrum) environment and need everyone’s contribution to ensure the consistently high quality of our products.

You Are Great At

• Designing software for enterprise-grade products.
• Developing the backend of applications in C++ and Java (architecture, stability, reusability, security, performance, best practices, etc.).
• Being actively involved in all discussions and reviews surrounding product development.
• Developing unit tests.
• Getting involved in peer reviews.
• Collaborating with the technical writer, the testing team, and technical support.
• Implementing fixes and improvements to existing features.
• Leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to accelerate design, coding, testing, and documentation, while critically validating AI-generated output for quality and security.
• Contributing to the design and integration of AI-powered features (e.g., generative AI, document summarization, and intelligent data extraction) into our products.
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of our engineering team.
  
  

What It Takes

• Proficiency in spoken and written French and English.
• 5+ years of experience in software development.
• Degree in computer science or software engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Solid backend development experience in C++ and Java.
• Solid database development experience with PostgreSQL.
• Comfortable working in Linux and Windows environments.
• Strong understanding of security best practices in software development.
• Analytical mind, attention to detail, passion, versatility, curiosity, initiative, and ability to work as a team are essential traits.
• Knowledge of Ruby or Python is an asset.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), REST APIs, or containers (Docker, Kubernetes) is an asset.
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) in day-to-day development, including effective prompting and rigorous review of AI-generated code, is an asset.
• Experience integrating generative AI or LLM services (e.g., AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI), including prompt engineering, and an understanding of responsible AI practices (data privacy, security, and compliance in regulated environments) are assets.

Compensation: At OpenText, we offer a thoughtfully designed benefits package that supports your physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing. As you move through the hiring process, we’re happy to provide more details about our compensation programs, including variable and commission compensation opportunities for eligible roles, vacation entitlement, and paid time off.

Salary Range: $98,080.00 - $147,120.00; Depending on the candidate’s education, experience, skills, geographical location, and alignment with internal equity and external market, actual salary may vary and be higher or lower than the range posted.
