Combustion Turbine Systems Engineer
OpTalent is representing a leading Ontario-based power generation organization in the search for a Combustion Turbine Systems Engineer.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to join an established power generation organization in a specialized engineering role focused on the reliability, performance and long-term management of combustion turbine systems.
Working alongside operations, maintenance and engineering teams, you will provide technical expertise on complex equipment challenges, lead investigations and reliability improvements, and contribute to engineering projects, major outages and long-term asset planning.
This role is well suited to an experienced engineer with a background in gas turbines or power generation who enjoys technical problem-solving, working closely with operating facilities and taking ownership of engineering decisions.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide engineering support for combustion turbine systems, including troubleshooting, equipment assessments and reliability improvements.
- Lead technical investigations and root-cause analyses, identifying equipment issues and recommending corrective actions.
- Review operating data, inspection findings, performance trends and maintenance history to assess equipment condition and identify potential risks.
- Support planned and forced outages, including inspection planning, repair recommendations, field oversight and return-to-service activities.
- Contribute to capital projects, equipment upgrades and the development of engineered solutions.
- Review technical specifications, engineering drawings, OEM documentation and vendor proposals.
- Support gas turbine performance testing, maintenance strategies and long-term asset lifecycle planning.
- Collaborate with plant personnel, OEMs, contractors and internal stakeholders to resolve technical challenges and improve equipment performance.
What We're Looking For
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated experience working with combustion turbines, gas turbines or related power generation equipment.
- Strong understanding of gas turbine operation, maintenance, inspection and performance.
- Experience with equipment troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and reliability engineering.
- Exposure to engineering projects, technical specifications, vendor reviews or equipment upgrades.
- Ability to interpret mechanical engineering drawings, including P&IDs and equipment layouts.
- Working knowledge of applicable ASME codes and standards, ideally including ASME PTC 22, ASME BPVC and ASME B31.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate across technical teams.
Additional Information
- Regular travel to operating facilities across Ontario is required.
- Valid driver's licence and ability to travel throughout Ontario and North America.
- Occasional extended assignments at operating facilities may be required.
- Unionized environment.
