Original job description

Who We Are

Having surpassed $300M ARR and continuing to grow, Optro helps enterprises transform risk into opportunity through its AI-powered GRC Intelligence Platform. More than 50% of the Fortune 500, including 7 of the Fortune 10, leverage our award-winning technology to move their businesses forward with greater clarity and agility. And our customers love us: Optro is top-rated on G2.com and Gartner Peer Insights.

At Optro, we inspire each other to innovate and are proud of what we are producing. We spend each day thinking of new ways to help our customers and contribute to the greater good of our company and our surrounding communities. We are all about assisting each other and breaking through barriers to create the most loved audit, risk, ESG, and InfoSec platform by our customers. This is how we have become one of the 500 fastest-growing tech companies in North America for the seventh year in a row, as ranked by Deloitte!

Why This Role is Exciting

Optro is seeking a highly motivated and forward-thinking Product and Partner Counsel to support both the Product and Partner teams. You will report to the Senior Counsel supporting both organizations and will act as a legal business partner to both organizations. You will drive innovation with our products and the partners who help take them to market. The ideal candidate is a commercially-minded, confident self-starter who can navigate the intersection of law and technology in a fast-paced environment who builds strong relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Act as an advisor for our product management, development, engineering, support, and marketing teams, providing strategic guidance on commercial terms, privacy issues, global regulatory compliance, privacy-by-design, data protection, and the responsible use of AI.
Influence the design and deployment of products by advising on legal, ethical, and regulatory issues in emerging technologies.
Conduct comprehensive legal analysis and monitor evolving regulations (such as cybersecurity and AI) to translate complex requirements into actionable, solution-oriented advice.
Draft and negotiate partner agreements, including resale, referral, distribution, technology partner, cloud marketplace, and services agreements.
Provide pragmatic, strategic advice that takes into account legal risk, including anti-bribery and anti-corruption, third-party risk, antitrust and competition, sanctions and export controls; promoting product adoption; and advancing business goals and initiatives.
Contribute to Legal’s role in developing commercial strategy for new products, partner programs, and routes to market, including public sector and government channels.

Attributes for a Successful Candidate

Education:
- J.D. degree and membership in at least one state bar.
Experience:
- 4-7 years of experience at a national law firm or in-house legal department, with a focus on channel and advisory partners and/or product counseling and technology transactions.
- In-house SaaS or technology company experience is required.
- A technical background or prior internal audit experience is preferred to partner deeply with technical leads.
Technical Knowledge:
- Experience advising on AI applications, cloud services, data privacy, and cybersecurity standards.
- Familiarity with multi-cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and compliance frameworks like SOC 2 or ISO 27001 is a plus.
Communication Skills:
- Exceptional ability to translate complex technical and legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for a range of business partners.
- Ability to build strong relationships and trust with internal stakeholders as well as external partners and customers.
Mindset:
- A creative problem solver with a sense of humor, high integrity, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- You have strong judgment. You can identify what matters, escalate where you need support, and close the rest without delay.
- Outstanding organizational skills and ability to prioritize and work independently
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Committed to personal growth and development by actively seeking feedback and responding with action

Our Company Values

Customer obsession: It starts and ends here. Consistently ask yourself how what you’re doing creates value for our customers. It’s a mindset.
Gritty resilience: Make it happen. Find a way. Move fast, stay positive, and do what it takes.
Drive innovation: Create the future. Continuously improve what exists and invent what’s next.
Win, together: One team. No silos, no egos. Drive to be the best and support each other’s success.
Growth mindset: 10x, not 10%. Think in orders of magnitude, not increments. Seek feedback, learn, and improve.
