Geologist-in-Training (1 Year Term)
(Saskatoon)
Orano Canada is a leading producer of uranium in Canada, working to power the future with clean energy! Our McClean Lake mill is the most technologically-advanced mill in the world for the processing of high-grade uranium ore without dilution. Our aim is to better define known deposits and discover new ones that will make it possible to supply our McClean Lake Mill for years to come.
Responsibilities include:
- Working on any designated Orano exploration project(s), in accordance with the Project Geologist
- Providing logistical and technical support for exploration/development programs as directed by the Project Geologists. These duties include, but are not limited to:
- Collect and interpret field data primarily related to the logging of drill core
- Enter data in project database
- Assist with daily core handling functions (measuring, sampling, photography, moving full core boxes etc.)
- Assist or complete down hole probing data acquisition
- Infrared Spectrometry measurements on drill core (TerraSpec) and other physical property measurements
- Provides as required written / oral presentation of results: maps, sections, tables, etc.
- May be required to assist the Project Geologist in supervision of geo-technicians
- Assist with spotting drill holes and flagging trails as necessary
- Must be fully aware of role and responsibilities as defined in the Integrated Management System (Corporate and Exploration) and support files
- Must comply with the health, safety, environment and radiation protection requirements in force at Orano Canada Inc; will enforce them with Exploration workers and contractors, as applicable
- Embrace and support Operational Excellence efforts and OE Culture
- Comply with all Orano health, safety and environmental policies, practices and procedures
- Promote and adhere to Orano’s Values: Safety and Security, Team Spirit and Cohesion, Continuous Improvement, Customer Satisfaction, Ethics, Transparency and Dialogue, Respect and People Development
Skills and Qualifications for the position include:
- University degree in geology (B.Sc., M.Sc.)
- Registered, or the ability to register with APEGS or another provincial equivalent
- Solid background in geology, structural geology, and geochemistry
- Uranium exploration field experience is a strong asset
- Good computer skills are essential; familiarity with Geosoft, AcQuire, and Microsoft Office are an asset
- Must understand geology of uranium prospects and deposits
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Experience operating snowmobiles or all-terrain vehicles (ex. ATV) is considered an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be discovery oriented / motivated
- Be scientific and logical, able to summarize large amount of data
- Good decision making abilities
- Excellent social skills and ability to work in a team environment
Work Location & Schedule:
- Predominantly a field-based position in Northern Saskatchewan; isolated exploration camps or mine sites on a two to three week in and one week out field rotation
- Partially based at Saskatoon Corporate Office
- Normally a 10-hour work day in the field and an 8-hour work day in Saskatoon office, although some activity outside of normal working hours may be required
- This position requires moderate physical ability with ability to work in difficult and isolated conditions
Salary Range:
$84,450 - $111,950
Compensation to be determined based on the selected candidate’s level of skill, education, and experience, and may vary within, the posted salary range.
As a condition of employment the successful candidate must complete Orano’s pre-employment checks including education verification and employment reference checks.
Drug (including marijuana) and alcohol substance testing is a requirement for all Safety Sensitive positions. Applicants who have recently used marijuana recreationally may not pass a substance test as marijuana can remain in the user’s system for as many as 30 days after use.
