Senior Geologist
(Saskatoon)
In this role, you’ll play a key part in leading exploration projects from planning through field completion, shaping exploration strategies, mentoring and developing a team of geoscience professionals, and advancing our understanding of prospective uranium deposits. You’ll bring together technical expertise and a passion for discovery to help identify new exploration opportunities across Saskatchewan.
What you’ll accomplish:
- Supervise a broad scope of exploration projects, including specific aspects of projects as part of strategy development and/or advanced projects
- In liaison with the Manager, Exploration Projects:
- Participate in the conception and the development of exploration programs and budgets (P&B)
- Participate in the development of short and long-term strategy in relation to exploration P&B
- Liaises with the contracts and permits specialist to ensure that:
- All contracts are properly tendered in a timely manner, in accordance with Orano’s policies and procedures
- All permits and/or work authorizations have been received and properly distributed before field work commences
- Responsible for the execution of exploration programs in the field:
- Supervise and mentors project geologists, geologists, contract geologists, students and technicians; organizes, distributes and prioritizes tasks for safe, efficient and successful exploration programs
- Ensure the timely production of all required documents (eg: geological, ISO requirements and Orano Canada Integrated Management System (IMS)), to be periodically presented to the Manager, Exploration Projects
- Ensure adequate quality, pertinence and accuracy of data regarding the collection and interpretation of field and research data with the purpose of producing maps, sections, tables, etc., adding to the geological and geophysical understanding of the project(s)
- Provide and/or review/validate written and oral presentations of results and interpretations as required (e.g.: Joint Venture meetings)
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the projects managed including the broader regional areas, which will allow for informed decisions on staking/lapsing and strategy
- Must be fully aware of the role and responsibilities as defined in the IMS Core Procedures and support files
Qualifications and skills we’re seeking:
- University degree in geology (B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D.), and 12+ years’ experience in exploration
- 10+ years of project management experience (e.g. Project Geologist) is required
- Must be an APEGS member in good standing or eligible for registration as a member
- A solid background in computing geological and geochemical data including a proficiency with Microsoft Office
- A solid background in structural geology
- High level understanding of the geology of uranium prospects and deposits
- Able to work as part of a team and foster and maintain good working relationships
- Excellent planning and organization skills with ability to formulate long-term plans
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Comfortable preparing and facilitating presentations
- Must be discovery-oriented, logical and inquisitive
- Good decision-making abilities
- Excellent social skills, prepared to work in difficult and isolated conditions
- Must be fit (physically and mentally) to work in remote locations
Work Location & Travel:
- Saskatoon Corporate Office
- Several weeks in exploration camps and mine sites as required, with a significant component during the winter months

Salary Range: $136,700 - $160,800
Compensation to be determined based on the selected candidate’s level of skill, education, and experience, and may vary within the posted salary range.
As a condition of employment the successful candidate must complete Orano’s pre-employment checks including education verification and employment reference checks.
