Original job description

Everything we do exists to find alpha, investment value the market has overlooked. We believe technology is a genuine source of that edge and core to how we find and act on conviction. Because of this, we are modernising our core platform, investing in our data, and building AI solutions that help us achieve alpha for our clients.

As a software developer, you will play a critical part in how we do this, turning ideas into solutions that drive our organisation forward for our clients.

We are home to world class talent, and we're looking for more of it to help define what our investment edge looks like next. You will thrive at Orbis if you enjoy solving challenging problems alongside motivated people.

Why Orbis?

Culture. Our culture is rooted in our Core Values. Everyone’s voice matters - whether quiet or bold - and challenging the status quo is part of everyday work.
Autonomy. While you’ll receive support, you’ll have ownership over your work.
Growth opportunities. We actively support continuous learning through mentorship, development plans, and dedicated personal development time.
Agile environment. We strive to balance personal needs, team collaboration, and client outcomes in a flexible and sustainable way.
Philanthropy. Our people can contribute to society in a unique and personal way, through various philanthropy opportunities and programs.

What will your responsibilities be?

Own the full stack. Design, build, and maintain software that supports vital business processes, from first commit to production.
Innovate. Explore new technologies and approaches, including how AI can revolutionise our workflows, and raise the bar for how we build.
Work directly with the business users and stakeholders. Turn real business problems into elegant solutions.
Contribute beyond your own code. Shape design discussions, code reviews, and technical presentations across our global engineering team.

About you

We care more about how you think than what you’ve done - many of our best hires started with limited industry experience. What we look for is intellectual curiosity and a growth mindset: you learn continuously and apply what you learn to deliver better outcomes.

You have strong technical fundamentals and real depth in your own discipline. Experience in our specific tech stack is an asset rather than a necessity. Just as important is the comfort to pick up whatever the problem needs - another part of the stack, or a conversation with the business. Communication, teamwork and problem-solving matter as much as code.

Skills you will develop

Critical thinking and collaboration. Navigate ambiguous problems, weigh trade-offs, and work across multidisciplinary teams.
Investment and industry knowledge. A practical understanding of investment management and financial services.
AI-enabled development. Build AI-integrated applications, agents, and workflows, and securely expose business data through MCP servers.
Full-stack and cloud engineering. C#, React, SQL Server, Snowflake, Kubernetes, AWS, RESTful APIs, and the architecture that ties them together.

Your qualifications & experience

2+ years of experience post graduation.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science or a related field.
Object-oriented programming experience; .NET is an asset, not required.
Experience with AI development tools (e.g. Claude Code).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills - you’ll work directly with business users and stakeholders.

What We Offer

The annual base salary for this position will be between $120,000 and $160,000 per year. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate’s subject knowledge, skill level, and experience. We offer very competitive total compensation, with strong performers earning higher performance-based bonuses.

How to Apply

Please submit resume and transcripts (all post-secondary to this point; unofficial accepted).

About Us

We are a global firm with offices across eight countries, over 400 employees and more than $50 billion in assets under management. But those numbers don't define Orbis. It's our values, how we do things day-by-day, and how we add value for our clients that define us.

Our investment philosophy is fundamental, long-term and contrarian. As contrarian investors, we aim to take a different perspective, and this filters into everything we do. To invest differently, you need to think differently. This is encouraged by having teams of people with different backgrounds, experiences and ways of thinking.
