Company

Named a Great Place to Work® Canada (Great Place to Work Institute, 2023, 2024, 2025 & 2026) and winner of the Business of the Year Award (Sudbury Chamber of Commerce, 2022), Orix Geoscience is a full-cycle geological consulting firm that advances strategic exploration and mining projects, through Data Optimization and Geological Solutions. Incorporated in May 2012 with offices in Toronto, Sudbury, and Winnipeg, Orix has collaboratively supported 250+ clients (junior, mid-tier, major, government, technology firms, and industry organizations) applying geological and geomatic expertise to drive global desktop and Canadian field projects forward. Your Geology and Data Experts.

Position

Orix is looking for new and experienced Geotechnicians to join us on exciting Canadian mineral exploration drill programs on a rotation basis.

Qualifications

· Experience cutting core or sampling and working on mineral exploration drill programs in a field environment or a related educational background a definite asset;

· Geotechnical related education and/or training is a definite asset;

· Superior communication, interpersonal, client service skills combined with a strong attention to detail and a high degree of integrity and confidentiality;

· Ability to work in remote field locations for 2 weeks on/2 weeks off, and 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off rotations;

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly throughout 10-12 hour shifts.

Job Responsibilities

Field Work

Responsible for cutting drill core using a power saw. Prior to core cutting, training will be provided onsite on how to use the saw, clean the saw and proper safety procedures. Core cutters will cut the core along designated marked lines, place samples in designated sample bags with associated tag numbers and move cut samples to the loading bay. Work is labor intensive, requiring lifting and moving boxes of rock core and core samples.

Additional duties may include but are not limited to:

· Carrying core from loading bay to core logging benches and from core logging benches to cut shack

· Measuring recovery and RQD

· Drawing meter marks on core

· Making box labels

· Travel to and from the field program location (Orix takes care of travel costs and logistics);

· Adhere to Health & Safety procedures at all times as required by the respective field site;

· Daily inspection of drill site for environmental / safety issues and hazards as required;

· Preparation of core samples for shipment to off-site laboratories;

· Daily communication with Geologists and contractors.

Other Duties

· Work alongside, support and/or supervise other colleagues as necessary (including student geologists and technicians);

· Any other duties as required by your project supervisor;

· Any other reasonable responsibilities as required to provide ongoing support of Orix and its operations globally.

Alignment of Personal Values with Orix Culture and Values

Orix actively hires and promotes individuals who are aligned with the company’s O-Code and demonstrate the following behaviours:

· Respect: You value each other’s points of views, treat everyone with politeness and kindness always, because being kind to people is not negotiable. You think good things about people and accept them as they are and you care about everyone’s feelings and well-being.

· Judgement: You make wise decisions (people, technical, business, and creative) despite ambiguity and identify root causes to get beyond treating symptoms. You think strategically and can articulate what you are, and are not, trying to do. You smartly separate what must be done well now, and what can be improved later.

· Communication: You listen well, instead of reacting fast, so you can better understand processes. You are concise and articulate in speech and writing and treat people with respect independent of their status or disagreement with you. You are able to maintain calm poise in stressful situations.

· Impact: You focus on great results rather than on the process and as a result accomplish amazing amounts of important work. To do this you exhibit a bias-to-action to avoid “paralysis by analysis” (you make a decision and run with it, rather than be paralyzed with over-analysis). You consistently demonstrate strong performance so colleagues can rely on you.

· Curiosity: You learn rapidly and eagerly and seek to understand our strategy, market, clients, and suppliers. You also contribute actively outside of your specialty.

· Innovation: You re-conceptualize issues to discover practical solutions to hard problems and challenge prevailing assumptions when warranted to suggest better approaches. As a result you create new ideas that prove useful. You also keep us nimble by minimizing complexity and finding time to simplify.

· Courage: You take smart risks. You are valued because you say what you think even if it is controversial and make tough decisions without agonizing. You question actions inconsistent with our values akin to the honor code pledge; “I will not lie, nor cheat, nor steal, and I will not tolerate those who do”.

· Passion: You are tenacious and inspire others with your thirst for excellence and intensely care for our success. You look to celebrate wins.

· Honesty: You are known for candor, directness and reputation to only say things about fellow employees that you will say to their face. You are quick to admit mistakes and what you have learned from them.

· Selflessness: You leave your ‘ego’ at home. You make time to help others and share information openly and proactively in support of strengthening your colleagues rather than being “indispensable”.

How to Apply:

Please apply by sending a cover letter and resume to Dan Piotrowski at hr@orixgeo.com. Please include in your cover letter why you are interested in the job and which skills, experience, and/or education make you an excellent candidate for Orix. Only those candidates with cover letters and resumes who fit the needs of the company will be contacted.

Think you're a good fit but don't check every box? Reach out to us anyway! We value diversity in backgrounds and experiences and are committed to equal opportunity, fairness, and a sense of belonging for all. Let's discover how you'll be a great fit at Orix together.
