Uplifting Your Career at Ornge

At Ornge, every role contributes to a larger purpose. As Ontario's provider of critical air ambulance and patient transport services, our people help deliver life-saving care to communities across the province. Behind every mission is a dedicated workforce supported by strong employee and labour relations practices.

We're looking for an Employee & Labour Relations Specialist who is passionate about building positive workplace relationships and navigating complex employee and labour relations matters.

Whether you're currently working in a dedicated labour relations role or you're an experienced HR Generalist with a strong labour relations foundation, this is an opportunity to apply your expertise in a dynamic, highly unionized environment.

In this role, you'll partner with leaders, employees, union representatives, and HR colleagues to provide practical advice, support workplace investigations, manage grievances, interpret collective agreements, and contribute to collective bargaining activities. You'll be a trusted resource, helping leaders navigate challenging situations while ensuring fair, consistent, and compliant people practices.

If you're known for your sound judgment, ability to handle sensitive issues with professionalism and tact, and your commitment to fostering respectful and productive workplaces, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide guidance and support to leaders and employees on employee and labour relations matters, including collective agreement interpretation, performance management, attendance management, accommodations, discipline, and employment legislation.
  • Support the administration of multiple collective agreements and ensure consistent application of labour relations practices across the organization.
  • Assist with grievance management, including investigations, documentation, response preparation, arbitration file development, evidence gathering, and case tracking.
  • Support collective bargaining activities through research, benchmarking, data analysis, and administrative coordination.
  • Coordinate and support workplace investigations involving harassment, human rights concerns, code of conduct issues, attendance, performance, and disciplinary matters.
  • Maintain accurate investigation, grievance, and labour relations records while ensuring confidentiality and compliance.
  • Support the resolution of workplace conflicts and employee concerns through fair, timely, and practical solutions.
  • Administer key employee lifecycle processes, including leaves of absence, return-to-work support, contract tracking, probationary reviews, seniority administration, and voluntary offboarding.
  • Lead and support collective agreement-related processes such as preferential bidding, step increases, seniority tracking, and labour-management committee activities.
  • Monitor legislative and labour relations developments and contribute to policy, procedure, and program enhancements.
  • Prepare reports, workforce metrics, and labour relations documentation to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Partner with HR colleagues and leaders to foster a workplace culture that reflects Ornge's values of respect, accountability, collaboration, and excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
  • CHRP designation, or progress toward completion, is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in employee relations, labour relations, or a human resources generalist role with significant labour relations exposure.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a unionized environment, ideally supporting multiple bargaining units and collective agreements.
  • Experience managing grievances, workplace investigations, performance management, attendance management, accommodations, and disciplinary matters.
  • Exposure to collective bargaining, labour-management committees, and arbitration preparation.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, labour relations principles, and collective agreement administration.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, conflict resolution, and investigation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to assess risk and recommend practical solutions.
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with leaders, employees, union representatives, and HR partners.

Total Rewards:

  • Comprehensive Health, Dental and Vision Benefit Plan.
  • 24/7 Employee and Family Assistance Program.
  • Premium Defined Benefits and Pension Plan Automatic Enrollment.
  • Three Paid Personal Days (Pro-Rated for Year 1).
  • Accrued vacation time starting at three weeks per year.
