Under the direction of the Accounting Supervisor, the School Finance Team Lead is responsible for leading a team of Senior Finance Clerks, providing school support and the enrolment tracking function of the Finance & Administration department, coordinating and conducting school reviews, implementing and updating training for schools and departments, reviewing financial statements and other financial reporting, verify and oversee the financial aspect of enrolment reporting, monitoring and tracking special projects, project management and leading financial investigations.
Job Description
- Supervises and leads a team of Senior Finance Clerks
- Assigns and monitors work tasks and tracks performance
- Provides guidance and support to schools with respect to financial and enrolment reporting
- Ensures reasonability and accuracy of enrolment reporting, and liaise with respective departments
- Leads and conduct school compliance reviews, and report findings to Management and Audit Committee
- Supervises and Coordinates staff while conducting school compliance reviews
- Coordinates and undertake financial investigations as requested
- Oversee school software, coordinating with Learning Technologies and vendor for system security access, upgrades, modification and training, and troubleshooting on ad hoc basis
- Develop, update and approve training sessions for school and departmental staff, including periodic review and update of professional development resources
- Review financial reports and related analysis for special grant filing requirements
- Track, monitor and reconcile special grants and prepares related year end working papers
- Ensure that internal controls are maintained in areas of responsibility
- Prepare and review journal entries and reconciliations as required
- Present financial reports related to area of responsibility to Audit Committee, Board meetings and Leadership meetings
- Liaise with external, internal and government auditors
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
Required Qualifications
- University degree in relevant and/or related discipline
- Chartered Professional Accountant Designation (CPA)
- Five years progressive business and accounting experience
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience overseeing a team
- Experience in providing training and delivering presentations
- Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Demonstrated effective coordination, planning, decision-making and problem solving skills
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills, and attention to detail
- Advanced proficiency with Excel, other MS office applications and Google suite applications
- Demonstrated hands-on practical knowledge of accounting software, comfortable with new technologies
In Addition, The Following Will Be Considered An Asset
- Public sector experience, preferably in education
- Experience with Microsoft Business Central / Sparkrock, PowerBI reports, Crystal report writer, K212 HRP (Human Resource and Payroll Management), Education Financial Information System (EFIS) and School Cash Accounting, OnSIS and PowerSchool
The approximate start date will be as soon as the staffing process is complete and a mutually agreed upon date can be set.
This is a permanent full time (1.0 FTE) position with an annual salary range of $95,098 - $103,153. A comprehensive benefits and pension plan are also available.
