Our client is a growing BC-based nonprofit organization focused on improving food security for children and families across the province.

Its work is powered by a broad community of volunteers, schools, corporate partners, donors, and community organizations who come together every week to support the delivery of essential programs.

The Opportunity

This is a role for someone who loves both people and systems.

As Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager, you’ll lead the evolution of a growing volunteer program while creating meaningful ways for individuals, corporate groups, schools, young people, and community partners to get involved.

You’ll build the structure behind the experience - developing systems, workflows, training, communications, and engagement strategies that make volunteering seamless and scalable - while remaining highly visible and hands-on within the community.

You’ll also lead the development of a youth-focused engagement initiative that connects volunteering with education, philanthropy, and community action, while expanding the organization’s presence through events, outreach, and supporter engagement.

If you can build a process from scratch but genuinely enjoy facilitating groups, meeting people, and creating experiences they want to return to, this role offers a unique combination of both.

What You’ll Own

Lead the development and ongoing management of a scalable volunteer and community engagement program
Build systems, processes, policies, workflows, and infrastructure to support a growing volunteer community
Coordinate volunteer opportunities for individuals, corporate groups, schools, youth organizations, community partners, and supporters
Manage the volunteer journey from registration and onboarding through scheduling, participation, follow-up, and ongoing stewardship
Develop volunteer roles, training materials, orientation resources, policies, and procedures
Build strategies to recruit, engage, retain, and deepen relationships with volunteers
Lead the development of a youth engagement program connecting volunteering, education, philanthropy, and community action
Represent the organization through community events, outreach initiatives, fundraising events, and other engagement opportunities
Partner closely with Operations, Programming, Fundraising, and CRM teams to align volunteer capacity with organizational needs
Use data and reporting to understand participation, retention, capacity, engagement, and opportunities for improvement

What You Bring

Experience developing, managing, or growing volunteer, community engagement, youth, events, or similar programs
Demonstrated ability to build systems, processes, and workflows within a growing or evolving organization
Strong project management and organizational skills
A strong understanding of what creates an engaging, accessible, and sustainable volunteer experience
Natural relationship-building skills and confidence working with diverse groups and community partners
Understanding of fundraising and supporter engagement, with an ability to recognize opportunities to deepen relationships
Experience working with volunteer management systems, CRMs, databases, or similar platforms; VOMO experience is an asset
Strong written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills
A proactive, creative, solutions-oriented approach
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams

Compensation

Base salary target: $75,000 – $85,000
Three weeks vacation
Two additional weeks of paid organizational shutdown time annually (for a total of 5 weeks vacation)

Please note - the salary range for this position is structured to reflect different stages of proficiency within the role. Compensation at the lower end applies to individuals developing core competencies, while higher compensation is associated with demonstrated expertise and sustained performance. Final offers are determined by the client based on candidate experience and organizational requirements.
