Team: 3 designers (stream owners) + coordination with an external execution team

Role Summary

The Creative Lead is responsible for visual brand strategy, design operations, and team leadership for the Marketing Canada design function. This is a strategic management role centered on building effective systems, establishing and maintaining creative standards, developing people, and ensuring the design function operates efficiently across all workstreams.

Each designer on the team owns a specific workstream and is individually accountable for that stream’s output and quality. The Creative Leader provides the structure, standards, direction, and coaching that enable this model to operate effectively, while maintaining oversight of day-to-day production and overall creative quality without serving as the default reviewer or executor of every deliverable.

Key ResponsibilitiesVisual Brand & Cross-Channel Strategy

Own brand consistency across all channels and outputs, including Inline, Online, Marketing, and Strategic work.
Extend and adapt brand standards to new outputs as the company grows its direct-to-consumer presence, including website, CRM, and related platforms.
Lead the evolution of OVE’s visual brand in partnership with the Senior Marketing & Brand Manager.
Ensure creative standards are understood and consistently applied across internal and external design resources.

Design Operations & Systems

Build and maintain template systems that scale effectively across workstreams and platforms.
Own resource planning, workflow optimization, prioritization, and capacity mapping across the design team.
Establish the framework for stream-specific practices and documentation, while individual stream owners develop and maintain the detailed processes within their respective workstreams.
Facilitate project kickoffs and stakeholder alignment for design-related initiatives.
Be accountable for asset management systems, organization, and standards within OVE’s Montreal Design function.
Identify opportunities to improve design processes, tools, automation, and overall team efficiency.

Team Leadership & Development

Manage and develop a team of designers, each accountable for the output and quality of their respective workstream.
Provide clear priorities, expectations, feedback, and ongoing coaching to team members.
Coach designers to develop deeper subject-matter expertise and progressively greater ownership within their streams.
Own performance management, technical guidance, development planning, and hiring for the design function.
Establish and uphold standards for creative and technical quality without acting as the default reviewer for all outgoing content; day-to-day quality ownership remains with each stream owner.
Serve as the senior design authority across all workstreams, including Inline and Online, with the expertise to guide, evaluate, troubleshoot, and, when required, directly support either area.
Foster accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across the design team.

Cross-Departmental Strategic Projects

Represent the Design function in cross-departmental initiatives, including website development, commercialization initiatives, and internal process or automation projects.
Partner with Project Management and the Senior Marketing & Brand Manager on major launches and longer-term strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate business, brand, and commercialization requirements into effective creative solutions.

Candidate Profile

Working proficiency across both physical/print production (Inline – packaging, POP, catalog) and digital production (Online – digital shelf, retailer platforms, RCI/BTF assets), with sufficient technical and creative knowledge to credibly direct and evaluate either.
Given a current gap in confirmed Online stream ownership, stronger digital/online experience is preferred, without compromising the baseline competence required to oversee physical production.
7+ years of design experience, including at least 2–3 years in a creative leadership or design management capacity.
Demonstrated experience building or scaling design operations, including systems, templates, processes, and workflows, rather than solely producing creative work.
Strong people-management and coaching experience, with demonstrated success developing direct reports and increasing their ownership, judgment, and capabilities.
Comfortable operating without deep pre-existing institutional knowledge, with the ability to quickly develop sound judgment, understand business needs, and establish effective working relationships.
Experience partnering cross-functionally with Marketing, Brand, Project Management, Product, Sales, or related business functions.
Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and resources across multiple workstreams.
Nice to have: Experience in home goods, retail, consumer products, CPG, or a comparable category.

Principales responsabilitésStratégie visuelle de la marque et cohérence multicanal

Assurer la cohérence de la marque à travers l’ensemble des canaux et des livrables, notamment les volets Inline, Online, Marketing et Strategic.
Faire évoluer et adapter les standards de la marque aux nouveaux types de livrables à mesure que l’entreprise développe sa présence directe auprès des consommateurs, notamment par l’entremise du site Web, du CRM et des plateformes connexes.
Diriger l’évolution de l’identité visuelle d’OVE en partenariat avec la Gestionnaire principale, Marketing et marque.

Opérations et systèmes de design

Gestion et développement de l’équipe

Gérer et développer une équipe de designers, chacun étant responsable des livrables et de la qualité de son propre volet.
Établir des priorités et des attentes claires et fournir une rétroaction ainsi qu’un accompagnement continus aux membres de l’équipe.
Accompagner les designers afin qu’ils développent une expertise plus approfondie et assument progressivement une plus grande autonomie et responsabilité dans leurs volets respectifs.
Être responsable de la gestion de la performance, de l’encadrement technique, du développement professionnel et du recrutement pour la fonction Design.
Établir et maintenir les standards de qualité créative et technique sans agir comme réviseur par défaut de l’ensemble des livrables; la responsabilité quotidienne de la qualité demeure celle de chaque responsable de volet.
Agir à titre de principale référence en matière de design pour l’ensemble des volets, notamment Inline et Online, avec l’expertise nécessaire pour guider, évaluer, résoudre les enjeux et, au besoin, soutenir directement l’un ou l’autre de ces secteurs.

Projets stratégiques interfonctionnels

Représenter la fonction Design dans le cadre d’initiatives interfonctionnelles, notamment le développement du site Web, les initiatives de commercialisation ainsi que les projets internes liés aux processus ou à l’automatisation.

Profil recherché

Expérience pratique tant en production physique et imprimée (Inline – emballages, matériel PLV/POP, catalogues) qu’en production numérique (Online – présence numérique des produits, plateformes des détaillants, actifs RCI/BTF), avec les connaissances techniques et créatives nécessaires pour diriger et évaluer efficacement les deux volets.
Compte tenu d’un besoin actuel plus important au niveau du volet Online, une expérience plus approfondie en numérique et en ligne constitue un atout important, sans toutefois compromettre les compétences de base requises pour superviser la production physique.
7 ans ou plus d’expérience en design, dont au moins 2 à 3 ans dans un rôle de leadership créatif ou de gestion d’une équipe de design.
Expérience démontrée dans la création ou l’évolution d’opérations de design, notamment les systèmes, gabarits, processus et flux de travail, plutôt qu’une expérience limitée à l’exécution créative.
Solide expérience en gestion et en accompagnement d’employés, avec des exemples concrets de développement de l’autonomie, du jugement et des compétences des membres de l’équipe.
Capacité à être efficace sans dépendre d’une connaissance institutionnelle approfondie préalable, notamment en développant rapidement une bonne compréhension de l’entreprise, un jugement solide et des relations de travail efficaces.
