Original job description

Based in Toronto and reporting to the Senior Director, Partnerships North America, this role will be responsible for creating high-quality photo and video content that brings our North American esports teams, players, talent, events and stories to life across social media, digital platforms and other channels.

The Toronto KOI Call of Duty team (formerly Toronto Ultra) will be the primary focus of this role. From time to time, the position may also support other OverActive Media teams, leagues and projects, including opportunities to collaborate with our Movistar KOI team in Europe and the broader creative and video teams in Spain.

This is a highly hands-on creative role. The successful candidate will be comfortable taking a project from idea and brief through production, photography/videography, editing and final delivery, while also being able to jump into fast-moving event coverage and respond to changing priorities.

The role is hybrid, on average working between 20-24 hours per week, with work taking place from OverActive Media's Toronto office, at team and league events, tournaments, photo/video shoots and other locations. Some work may be completed remotely, outside regular business hours, on weekends or while travelling for events and competitions, including occasional travel within North America and internationally when required.

Core Responsibilities

Content Creation & Production

Conceptualize, plan, produce and deliver original photo and video content for OverActive Media's North American teams and brands.
Develop creative concepts and short production briefs for review and approval, including proposed objectives, concepts, formats, talent, locations, timelines and required resources.
Participate in creative ideation sessions and contribute new concepts, formats and storytelling ideas to the broader Content Team.
Capture high-quality photography and video at team activities, practices, matches, tournaments, events, player appearances, lifestyle shoots and other activations.
Plan and execute photo and video shoots both independently and in collaboration with internal teams, talent and external partners.
Apply strong working knowledge of cinematography, composition, lighting, camera operation and sound recording.
Operate professional cameras, lenses, audio equipment and lighting equipment in studio and on location.
Manage basic production logistics, including equipment preparation, locations, talent coordination and shot lists.
Conduct player, talent and stakeholder interviews and manage talent appropriately during shoots.
Write short scripts, treatments and creative concepts and, when required, direct short-form video content.

Photography & Post-Production

Photograph players, teams, events, activations, sponsors and other subjects for editorial, social, marketing and commercial purposes.
Select, organize, colour-correct, retouch and prepare photographic assets for publication.
Edit video content using Adobe Creative Cloud, including Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
Create short-form social content using live-event, lifestyle, original, archival and other available footage.
Prepare content in appropriate formats, aspect ratios, resolutions and specifications for different social and digital platforms.
Maintain consistent visual and technical standards across internally and externally produced content.
Organize and manage footage, photography and other digital assets in accordance with team processes.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support

Work closely with the Content Producer and broader Content Team to prioritize and deliver projects on schedule.
Collaborate with Marketing and Social teams to support their content requirements and campaign priorities.
Collaborate with the Partnerships team to develop and deliver sponsor-related content and ensure contractual brand requirements are met.
Work with Graphic Design and Creative teams on the integration of motion graphics, branding and other visual elements.
Collaborate with the video and creative teams in Spain, sharing ideas, assets, production approaches and best practices where appropriate.
Support content initiatives involving Movistar KOI and other OverActive Media teams in Europe when required.
Ensure branded deliverables and other commercial assets are completed accurately and on schedule.
Communicate proactively with the Content Producer and relevant stakeholders regarding timelines, production requirements, challenges and changing priorities.

Live Events & Travel

Provide photography and video coverage at matches, tournaments, competitions, fan events, sponsor activations and other live events.
Be available for occasional evening and weekend work based on the esports calendar and event requirements.
Travel within Toronto, across North America and internationally when required to support teams, events, tournaments or productions.
Be comfortable working in fast-paced live-event environments where schedules and priorities can change quickly.
Work effectively and independently while travelling or operating remotely when required.

We're looking for:

A Self-Starter - Someone who can take an idea, develop it into a practical creative brief, obtain the appropriate approval and independently execute the project from concept through delivery. You are comfortable working autonomously while keeping the broader Content and Marketing teams informed.

A Creative Storyteller - Someone who understands how to tell stories visually and can capture compelling moments through both photography and video. You have a strong creative eye, understand current content trends and are always looking for ways to make content more engaging, authentic and relevant to fans.

A Team Player - Someone who enjoys collaborating with producers, creative, marketing, partnerships, graphic design, social and team operations. You are comfortable receiving feedback, adapting your work and contributing ideas without ego.

An Esports Fan - A strong knowledge of esports, gaming culture and the audiences surrounding competitive gaming is a significant asset. Familiarity with Call of Duty and the Call of Duty League is particularly valuable given the primary focus of the role.

Requirements

Education & Experience

3+ years of professional experience in photography, videography, content creation, production, editing or a related field.
Demonstrated experience creating both photographic and video content for digital and social platforms.
3+ years of experience with video editing and Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Adobe Premiere Pro; experience with After Effects is an asset.
Experience working in a professional production, media, sports, entertainment, gaming or esports environment is an asset.
Post-secondary education in film, media production, photography, digital media, communications, marketing or a related discipline is considered an asset.
A strong portfolio demonstrating photography, videography and editing capabilities is required.

Technical Skills

Strong working knowledge of professional cameras and lenses, particularly Canon equipment or comparable systems.
Strong understanding of cinematography, framing, composition, camera movement and visual storytelling.
Ability to properly light and record high-quality audio on location and in studio.
Strong photography skills, including portrait, lifestyle, action and event photography.
Strong video editing and post-production skills.
Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
Familiarity with social media content formats, specifications and publishing requirements.
Understanding of current digital content trends and best practices across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X.
Ability to work with archival and found footage and integrate it effectively into new content.
Familiarity with motion graphics and basic animation is an asset.

Skills & Abilities

Toronto-based and legally eligible to work in Canada.
Valid passport and ability to travel internationally when required.
Comfortable working a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends and travel based on the esports calendar.
Highly organized with strong time-management and project-management skills.
Able to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
