The Career Services Advisor is responsible for delivering comprehensive career counselling, employment preparation, employer engagement, and career development programming for domestic and international students.

The Advisor supports students throughout their employment journey, including career exploration, résumé and interview preparation, job-search strategies, practicum readiness, and transition into the workforce.

Working collaboratively with students, employers, and internal academic and operational teams, the Career Services Advisor helps develop employer relationships and employment opportunities while supporting strong student outcomes. Where immigration-related matters arise, the Advisor works appropriately with licensed immigration professionals to ensure students are directed to qualified sources of advice.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Career Counselling, Student Advising & Professional Support

  • Lead individual and group career advising sessions focused on résumé development, interview preparation, job-search strategies, workplace professionalism, and networking skills.
  • Provide structured guidance to students on career planning, labour-market awareness, and professional goal development aligned with their academic programs.
  • Support graduates in their transition to employment through job-search assistance, employer referrals, industry connections, and transition-to-work coaching.
  • Support students experiencing academic or personal barriers that may affect their career progress and provide appropriate referrals to internal or external support services.

Practicum & Employment Readiness Support

  • Prepare students for practicum, work-integrated learning, and employment opportunities through job-readiness training, communication coaching, interview preparation, and professional etiquette guidance.
  • Collaborate with the Client Services team and external employers to identify and develop employment and practicum opportunities aligned with student skills, interests, and program requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers, clinical sites, and community partners to support practicum placements and graduate employment opportunities.

Workshops, Training Programs & Assessments

  • Develop and deliver career-development workshops covering résumé and application preparation, job-search strategies, application tracking, interview skills, networking, and time-management strategies.
  • Organize mock interviews, employer information panels, and professional-development sessions designed to strengthen student employability.
  • Administer and interpret appropriate career-interest and aptitude assessments to help students identify their strengths, competencies, interests, and potential career pathways.

Career Events & Institutional Initiatives

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver career-related events, including job fairs, employer information sessions, networking events, and other employment-focused activities.
  • Coordinate student engagement initiatives in collaboration with faculty, Admissions, Client Services, and other administrative teams.
  • Evaluate career events and initiatives and recommend improvements to strengthen student engagement, employment outcomes, and employer participation.

Data Analysis, Reporting & Quality Improvement

  • Define, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to student employment, practicum activity, graduate outcomes, and Career Services engagement.
  • Maintain accurate records and tracking systems for student employment outcomes, practicum activity, student progress, employer engagement, and Career Services utilization.
  • Analyze trends and outcomes to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and support institutional and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of Career Services programs, processes, resources, and student supports.

Orientation & Admissions Support

Lead the Career Services component of new-student orientation, introducing students to career outcomes, employability expectations, available resources, and Career Services support.
•  Represent Career Services at open houses, recruitment events, and community-engagement activities.
•  Provide prospective students with accurate, appropriate information about career pathways, employment outcomes, and Career Services available through the College, while avoiding guarantees or representations of employment.

Collaboration with RCIC & Licensed Recruitment Partners

  • Collaborate with the Registered Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) and licensed international recruitment partners to help ensure students are connected with appropriate sources of immigration-related information and professional guidance.
  • Refer students to appropriately licensed professionals for immigration matters that may affect their studies, practicum participation, or career planning.
  • Maintain clear professional boundaries by ensuring that immigration advice requiring authorization is provided by appropriately licensed professionals.

Employer & Community Engagement

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local and regional employers, industry organizations, clinical sites, and community partners to expand practicum and employment opportunities for students and graduates.
  • Engage with employers to understand workforce needs, hiring trends, skills requirements, and opportunities relevant to College programs and graduates.
  • Act as a liaison between OICC and industry partners, maintaining regular communication and supporting the development of long-term employer relationships.
  • Identify new employer and community partnerships that can strengthen student career development, practicum opportunities, and graduate employment outcomes.
