The Role

We are seeking a Transportation Planner - Flex Coverage - to join our P&H Milling team. This role provides transportation planning and dispatch coverage for team members during planned or unplanned absences, supporting continuity of daily transportation operations. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, organized, and comfortable transitioning between planning assignments, coordinating shipments, and communicating with drivers, carriers, and internal teams to support timely pickups and deliveries.

Day to Day

• Provide transportation planning and dispatch coverage for team members during planned or unplanned absences, adapting to the requirements of each planning assignment. 
• Plan and coordinate daily shipments, pickups, and deliveries, align transportation arrangements with customer requirements, product availability, and equipment capacity. 
• Communicate dispatch instructions and schedule updates to drivers and carriers, and coordinate with production, customer service, and other internal teams. 
• Monitor shipment progress, respond to scheduling changes and service disruptions, and escalate issues as needed to support timely deliveries. 
• Maintain accurate shipment details, schedules, and status updates in the Transportation Management System (TMS) Descartes, Samsara and other relevant systems. 
• Tender loads to third-party (3PL) carriers, monitor service performance, and manage accessorial charges for assigned coverage.
• Crosstrain across planning assignments, maintain current coverage notes, and coordinate handoffs with team members to support continuity before, during, and after absences. 

What You’ll Bring:

• Education in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
• A minimum of three years of experience in transportation planning, dispatching local drivers, and load planning.
• Experience with pneumatic multi-axle tankers, rail tankers, domestic intermodal deliveries, and bulk rail transportation is considered an asset.
• Working knowledge of commercial transportation regulations, the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, and Hours of Service (HOS) requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Transportation Management Systems (TMS), with strong attention to accurate shipment information and recordkeeping. Experience with Descartes OnDemand and Samsara is considered an asset.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage changing priorities, learn different planning assignments, and provide coverage at short notice.
• You will be required to participate on a weekend on-call rotation coverage and provide occasional after-hours dispatch support when backup is needed. 
• Clear communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with drivers, carriers, and internal teams.
