PACT (Pearson Accelerator Construction Team) is a General Partnership of Alberici, Amico, Kenaidan, and Obayashi, supported by design partners Egis, Mott MacDonald, and Weston Williamson + Partners. Together, we are delivering Accelerator, a major program of Pearson LIFT (Long-term Investment in Facilities and Terminals), Toronto Pearson's infrastructure development plan. This multi-year program is designed to address immediate passenger growth demands while preparing Canada’s largest airport for the future of air travel - including critical upgrades to airfield and infrastructure, greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, modernization of Terminals 1 and 3, and the creation of a world-class passenger experience.
JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the successful planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of complex projects within PACT's Interim Infrastructure Sub-Program at Toronto Pearson Airport. Working under the direction of a Project Manager and in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, the APM plays a key role in managing project scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality, and stakeholder coordination throughout the design and construction lifecycle.
This role requires a proactive leader who can effectively coordinate consultants, contractors, airport stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and internal project teams to ensure successful project outcomes while minimizing disruption to airport operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support Project Managers in delivering multiple projects and work packages across the Sub-Program.
- Assist in the development and execution of project management plans, delivery strategies, procurement plans, and implementation schedules.
- Manage assigned project scopes, ensuring alignment with project objectives, milestones, and program priorities.
- Coordinate design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnover activities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support the advancement of early works packages and phased implementation strategies to maintain program schedule commitments.
- Develop, monitor, and maintain project schedules, look-ahead plans, and key milestone trackers.
- Monitor project budgets, commitments, forecasts, change management activities, and cost reporting.
- Maintain logs for RFIs, change orders, submittals, drawings, and site instructions.
- Identify schedule risks, delays, and cost impacts and escalate concerns with recommended mitigation strategies.
- Support monthly reporting, earned-value metrics, forecasting, and performance analysis.
- Coordinate construction activities between contractors, consultants, airport operations, utility providers, and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor contractor performance and support resolution of field issues, conflicts, and constraints.
- Attend site visits with project managers; document site observations and action items.
- Participate in construction planning meetings, site inspections, readiness reviews, and operational coordination sessions.
- Assist with possession planning, shutdown coordination, staging plans, and logistics management within the active airport environment.
- Support procurement processes including development of scopes of work, bid packages, tender evaluations, and contract documentation.
- Administer contract requirements, including RFIs, change orders, submittals, notices, progress claims, and contractual correspondence.
- Assist with tracking commercial risks, claims management, and contract compliance requirements.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with airport stakeholders, consultants, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and project partners.
- Prepare project updates, status reports, dashboards, and executive summaries for leadership and stakeholders.
- Participate in safety reviews, hazard assessments, and operational risk evaluations.
- Monitor project quality requirements and support inspection, testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
- Ensure compliance with GTAA requirements, regulatory standards, environmental obligations, and PACT governance processes.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Project Coordinators and other junior team members.
- Support with other duties as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position will be based at our office in Mississauga, Ontario, with visits to the Airport site as required. Your work schedule will be Monday to Friday during regular office or site hours. At times, operational needs may require work outside these hours, with reasonable notice provided. All schedule or on call adjustments will comply with applicable employment standards legislation. It is mandatory for all employees to complete a Criminal Background check and successfully attain a Restricted Access Identity Card (RAIC) upon joining the company.
DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- Eng. and PMP designations are preferred.
- 6-8+ years of experience in project coordination for large infrastructure projects.
- Solid understanding of building systems and infrastructure interfaces.
- Proficiency with design management tools, digital collaboration platforms, and document control systems.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Familiarity with GTAA or other major airport procedures is considered an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and eligibility for RAIC clearance required.
