Original job description

About PakFactory PakFactory has spent over a decade as a design-led custom packaging partner to North American brands across apparel, beauty, food and beverage, and beyond. We're now at a genuine inflection point: transforming from a service business into a technology-powered platform. That means rebuilding our website, launching customer and vendor portals, and shipping AI products that change how packaging gets quoted, designed, and delivered.

The Mission We are seeking a Senior Packaging Designer with deep hands-on experience in structural packaging and inserts. The ideal candidate will lead the design of complex packaging solutions, including corrugated, folding cartons, rigid boxes, and multi-piece inserts, while mentoring junior designers. This role requires a strong balance of creativity, technical expertise, and operational knowledge to ensure designs are production-ready and optimized for both protection and presentation.

What You’ll Build & Own

Lead the design of structural packaging and complex inserts, including multi-layer and precision-cut foam, corrugated, and board inserts.
Develop intricate dielines optimized for Esko-enabled digital cutting and prototyping tables (Kongsberg preferred).
Prototype, test, and refine packaging structures independently to ensure fit, function, and manufacturability.
Collaborate closely with Production, Sales, and Engineering teams to align designs with material, assembly, and production constraints.
Mentor junior designers, provide guidance on best practices, and ensure design quality across projects.
Stay current on packaging trends, materials, and technologies to innovate solutions.

What You Bring to the Table

5+ years of experience in structural packaging design, including corrugated, folding carton, and rigid boxes.
Advanced proficiency in CAD table operations and experience with Esko-enabled cutting/prototyping tables (Kongsberg preferred).
Strong working knowledge of ArtiosCAD or equivalent Esko software.
Proven ability to design production-ready prototypes and dielines, optimized for digital cutting tables and low-to-mid volume production.
Understanding of structural engineering principles for inserts: weight distribution, product retention, and assembly efficiency.
Experience leading or mentoring designers; strong communication and collaboration skills.

Strong Assets / Nice-to-Haves

Background in retail or premium packaging.
Experience presenting design solutions to clients.
Knowledge of advanced prototyping techniques and material considerations.

Why PakFactory

Lead complex, high-impact packaging projects with creative and operational influence.
Shape design standards and mentor a growing team of designers.
Work with cutting-edge tools and technologies to bring innovative packaging solutions to life.

Benefits & Work Conditions

Extended Health, Dental, and Vision care
Paid time off (PTO) and statutory holiday pay
On-site parking
Legal Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

Accessibility, Inclusion & AI Transparency

PakFactory is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Human Rights Code, accommodations are available upon request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the recruitment and selection process. If you require accommodation, please contact HR@pakfactory.com.

How to Apply Please submit your resume along with a link or PDF of your structural design portfolio. To help us evaluate your hands-on experience, please ensure your portfolio showcases real-world examples of structural packaging, custom dielines, and insert/protective interior engineering.
