Mechanical & Piping Engineer
Department: Project & Engineering
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Saskatoon Office
Reporting To: Mechanical Engineering Lead
Description
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Mechanical & Piping Engineer to contribute to the development of one of Canada's newest uranium mining operations. Working on a large-scale greenfield project at an exciting stage of development, you will gain valuable experience supporting detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and startup activities while working alongside experienced project and operations professionals.
Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Lead, the Mechanical & Piping Engineer will work as part of the PLS Project team, alongside engineering consultants, equipment vendors, construction personnel, and future operations teams to help deliver mechanical equipment and piping systems that are safe, reliable, and maintainable. You will be involved in reviewing designs, supporting equipment procurement, resolving field engineering challenges, and assisting with the successful installation and commissioning of plant infrastructure and processing facilities.
This role offers the opportunity to broaden your technical and project experience by participating in all phases of project delivery, from design through operational readiness. You will gain exposure to major capital project execution, multidisciplinary engineering, contractor management, and commissioning activities while developing a strong understanding of mining and mineral processing operations.
As the project progresses toward construction and startup, you will play an increasingly important role supporting system completions, turnover, and operational readiness activities, helping ensure a smooth transition from project execution to operations. For an engineer looking to accelerate their career and develop into a future technical or project leader, this position provides a unique opportunity to learn from experienced professionals while contributing to a world-class uranium development in northern Saskatchewan.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and review of mechanical and piping engineering deliverables from detailed design through construction, commissioning, and startup.
- Assist with equipment selection, piping layout reviews, and design evaluations to ensure constructability, operability, maintainability, and safety requirements are met.
- Coordinate with engineering consultants, equipment vendors, and project teams to support the delivery of mechanical and piping systems.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, material requisitions, and vendor documentation for compliance with project requirements.
- Support construction activities by responding to field queries, reviewing design changes, and assisting with technical issue resolution.
- Participate in equipment inspections, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site acceptance activities as required.
- Assist with commissioning and startup planning, including system turnover, punch-list management, and operational readiness activities.
- Support the development of mechanical and piping work packages, procedures, operating manuals, and turnover documentation.
- Monitor progress of mechanical and piping installation activities and assist with quality assurance and quality control requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all engineering activities are completed in accordance with project standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations teams to support successful project delivery.

- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS). P.Eng. designation is considered an asset.
- 4-7 years of engineering experience in mechanical and piping systems within mining, industrial, energy, or heavy construction projects.
- Experience supporting detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, or startup activities on major capital projects is preferred.
- Familiarity with mechanical equipment, piping systems, pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, material handling systems, and associated utilities.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and engineering practices related to mechanical and piping design.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, vendor packages, and technical documentation.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and engineering document management systems.
- Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to work in a dynamic project environment and support multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Previous experience on remote or northern industrial projects is considered an asset.
