Original job description

About the role

Pangeo Group is building an aluminum die casting and machining plant in Vaughan, Ontario – our first die casting operation in North America. As an Industrial Maintenance Technician, you keep our production equipment, auxiliary systems and building running safely and reliably, and you help build the maintenance function of a new plant from the ground up.

Working closely with the Maintenance Manager, you will support equipment installation, commissioning and start-up, develop preventive maintenance plans, organize equipment records and critical spare parts, and respond as part of the first-response team when production is down.

Responsibilities

Preventive maintenance planning and implementation

  • Work with the Maintenance Manager to develop, implement and continuously improve a preventive and predictive maintenance (PM) program for all plant equipment and building systems.
  • Review OEM manuals, specifications and operating conditions to set equipment-specific inspection, lubrication, servicing and component-replacement schedules (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual).
  • Prepare and maintain PM checklists, work instructions, inspection sheets and service records; complete scheduled PM on time and report overdue tasks and recurring issues.
  • Identify critical equipment and early warning signs of deterioration (abnormal noise, vibration, temperature, leaks, wear) and recommend corrective action before failures occur.

Mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery, production equipment, CNC machines and auxiliary systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components, including bearings, shafts, couplings, gearboxes, chains, belts, pumps, cylinders, valves and lubrication systems.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, equipment layouts and OEM manuals; assist with equipment alignment, levelling and adjustment.
  • Respond to breakdowns and work with electricians, production and the Maintenance Manager to restore equipment safely and efficiently; document repairs and follow-up requirements.
  • Coordinate with electrical and controls personnel on faults involving electrical, mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic systems.

Die casting equipment and auxiliary systems

  • Support maintenance of high-pressure die casting machines, hydraulic power units, extraction robots, ladle systems, die sprayers, trim presses, conveyors and automated material-handling equipment.
  • Inspect and maintain cooling-water circuits, heat exchangers, filtration equipment, air compressors, cooling tower and related process utilities.
  • Assist with maintenance of melting and holding furnaces within your training and authorization.
  • Manage coolant systems (swaps, top-ups and concentration checks) and scrap and chip bin handling with recycling vendors.

Installation, commissioning and start-up

  • Take part in installing, positioning, levelling, aligning, anchoring and connecting new production equipment, and in functional testing before production handover.
  • Work with OEM technicians, contractors and engineers to resolve equipment deficiencies, and identify missing manuals, drawings, spare-parts information and maintainability concerns.
  • Establish initial equipment condition records and PM schedules before equipment enters regular production.

Facility and building maintenance

  • Maintain building systems, including HVAC (filters and ventilation), electrical, plumbing and general facility upkeep; coordinate contractor repairs and visits.
  • Perform routine building, crane, forklift and fire extinguisher inspections to meet safety requirements.

Documentation, spare parts and continuous improvement

  • Help build and maintain the equipment register, technical documentation library and maintenance histories; enter maintenance activity in the CMMS or quality management system (QMS) within 24 hours.
  • Identify and document critical spare parts, consumables and recommended stock levels.
  • Track downtime causes and recurring failures; take part in root cause analysis and recommend long-term solutions rather than temporary fixes.
  • Estimate costs and materials for maintenance projects, and support 5S activities to keep work areas clean, organized and stocked.

Safety

  • Follow Ontario occupational health and safety requirements, company procedures and OEM instructions.
  • Apply lockout/tagout and verify safe isolation of all hazardous energy, including stored hydraulic and pneumatic pressure, before starting work; follow working-at-heights and hoisting procedures.
  • Keep machine guarding and safety devices in working order, and report unsafe conditions and equipment defects promptly.
  • Work only within your training, competence and authorization.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on industrial maintenance or mechanical troubleshooting experience in manufacturing, processing or heavy industry.
  • Secondary school diploma (OSSD) or equivalent; a technical diploma or certificate in industrial maintenance, electromechanics or a related field is an asset.
  • Strong mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting skills; working knowledge of electrical systems.
  • Strong welding, fabrication and machining skills.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs, equipment inspection and safety compliance.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, equipment manuals and technical documentation.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes safely (certification provided or required, per company policy).
  • Basic computer skills for work orders and maintenance records; CMMS experience is an asset.
  • Able to work rotational shifts, and overtime, weekends or shutdowns when required.

Assets

  • Experience in high-pressure die casting, aluminum foundry, automotive manufacturing or a similar environment.
  • Experience with large hydraulic presses, die casting or injection moulding machines, industrial robots, trim presses and conveyors.
  • Experience supporting new equipment installation, commissioning or a greenfield plant start-up.
  • Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A) certificate of qualification, or progress toward one.

Working conditions

  • Full-time, on-site role in an automotive die casting and machining plant, with exposure to heat, noise, molten aluminum, moving machinery, elevated work areas and other industrial hazards.
  • Required PPE includes safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear and flame-resistant clothing in designated areas, as set out in the plant's PPE policy.
  • Regular standing, walking, climbing, bending and kneeling; lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Shift work, overtime, weekend work and shutdown support may be required; shift assignments may change to balance skills across shifts.
  • Works under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager, using judgment within established procedures.

All team members are responsible for health and safety, environmental and quality system compliance. The duties above describe the general content of the role and are not an exhaustive list; other related duties may be assigned.

What we're looking for

  • Hands-on. You enjoy diagnosing problems and fixing them properly.
  • Proactive. You spot problems before they cause downtime and take initiative without waiting for detailed instructions.
  • Organized. You keep accurate records and leave equipment and work areas better than you found them.
  • Builder mindset. You want to help set up a new maintenance department and its standards.

  • Group RRSP with company match
