Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for manufacturing and process engineering at the plant, and for the continuous improvement work that meets production, quality and budget goals. The role manages the manufacturing engineering team, works with Program Management on launches, and makes the technical decisions on equipment, tooling and process.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing and Process Engineering

Lead the development, evaluation and implementation of manufacturing processes and techniques that raise productivity and quality while reducing cost.
Collaborate with Program Managers on product launches: equipment and tooling planning, floor layout, lean manufacturing implementation, and initial production planning.
Own the technical documentation released to the floor, and keep it current as processes change.

Continuous Improvement

Partner with the Production team on continuous improvement, including reducing manufacturing overhead and headcount requirements.
Improve supply chain efficiency, logistics and inventory turns alongside Materials and Logistics.
Partner with Quality Assurance so processes meet or exceed IATF 16949 requirements and customer specifications.
Apply lean manufacturing principles and solutions such as automation and process flexibility to eliminate waste, reduce variability and scrap, and improve first-time quality.

Equipment and Technology

Oversee the selection, acquisition and maintenance of manufacturing equipment against operational goals.
Make the technical decisions on equipment purchases, and keep downtime low through effective maintenance planning.
Support runoff and commissioning of new equipment, and lead root-cause analysis on tooling and equipment failures that stop production.

Escalation Management

Act as the primary point of contact for critical internal and external escalations, develop actionable solutions for red issues, and communicate the plan to executive management.

Team and Safety

Lead, staff and develop the manufacturing engineering team.
Build standards, checklists and documented processes so the work does not depend on one person.
Own engineering safety performance under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WHMIS and WSIB requirements.

Data-informed decisions: decides from production and quality data rather than opinion.
Team-first problem solving: works openly across departments, contributes to a high performing team, and stays steady under pressure.
Participates in the Open-Door Resolution Process, follows all Company safety procedures, and models PES's operational procedures and policies.
Ensures suppliers work safely in operations work areas and zones when applicable.
Conducts themselves in a professional manner and maintains peer relationships.

Level and Experience:

The role is posted at two levels with the same scope and the same reporting line. The difference is years of experience, and the title is set to match the candidate.

Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor

7+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, ideally in automotive.
2+ years leading engineers or technicians.
Has run process improvement and launch support work under a manager's direction.

Manufacturing Engineering Manager

10+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, ideally in automotive.
5+ years leading a manufacturing engineering function.
Has owned capital equipment decisions and customer escalations directly.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Experience working to IATF 16949, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment and technologies.
Proficient in GD&T and reading blueprints.
Proficient in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma or a similar methodology.
Open to travel for site support or technology evaluations, and flexible to resolve urgent production issues or meet deadlines after hours.

Assets:

Experience manufacturing powertrain and transmission components and mechanical subsystems.
CNC machining, metal forming, heat treat, and the aluminum die cast process.
Familiar with assembly cells, presses, robots, CNC machining centres, pumps, compressors, cutters and grinders, and the associated tooling and fixturing; Microsoft Office and internal databases and software.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

Program launch: launches delivered on time and on budget.
OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness): uptime and productivity across the equipment base.
Scrap rate: reduction in defects and waste, overall and by line.
Downtime: downtime percentage, equipment MTBF and MTTR.
Cycle time: throughput and efficiency improvement.
Cost savings: annual cost reduction and efficiency improvement delivered.

Responsibilities and Working Conditions:

Under the general direction of the Plant Manager, the Manufacturing Engineering Manager works independently and confers regularly with division and corporate employees, contractors, customers and suppliers. Travel and overtime may be required to meet customer expectations. A valid driver's license and passport are required for travel. The role works in a manufacturing plant environment and will be exposed to some elements such as temperature and noise.

Eligibility Requirements

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. This position is based at 6500 Cantelon Drive, Windsor, Ontario.

Compensation: CAD $110,000 to $135,000 plus bonus
