Original job description
About the Company
Pangeo Group is building an aluminum die casting and machining plant in Vaughan, Ontario – our first die casting operation in North America.
About the Role
As Production Supervisor, you lead a shift team across die casting, foundry, CNC machining and assembly, and you are accountable for safety, quality, productivity and on-time delivery on your shift. This is a hands-on role through start-up and ramp. You will spend most of your time on the production floor, troubleshoot machines and robots alongside your team, and help build the standards, routines and culture of a new plant.
Responsibilities
Safety and people leadership
- Lead by example in keeping a safe, organized and disciplined workplace, especially around molten metal, high-temperature equipment and automated machinery.
- Make sure all plant safety rules, standard operating procedures and work instructions are communicated and followed; take part in safety audits, daily Gemba walks, workplace inspections and corrective-action follow-up.
- Plan and direct on-the-job training so every team member is competent and qualified for their assigned area; coach and develop team members on equipment operation, quality expectations and safe work practices.
- Manage employee relations on your shift: resolve concerns and conflicts professionally and fairly, keep sensitive personnel matters confidential, and recommend hiring, discipline and termination decisions in line with company policy.
- Build a positive, respectful team environment that balances safety, quality, productivity, cost and morale.
Production and operations
- Plan, assign and coordinate daily work across die casting, foundry, CNC machining, assembly and supporting functions to meet production targets and customer build plans.
- Manage shift schedules, staffing and labour levels; move people to where they are needed and adjust priorities when equipment fails, problems arise or customer requirements change.
- Track shift performance – output, cycle time, equipment utilization, OEE, labour efficiency, scrap and rework – and act quickly to reduce downtime and improve throughput.
- Troubleshoot machine stoppages and process interruptions to restore production safely and efficiently.
- Keep accurate production records, shift reports, downtime logs and shift handover notes.
Die casting technology and automation
- Monitor and adjust die casting machine conditions during production to keep processes stable; work with Process Engineering to set, validate and optimize machine parameters.
- Program, teach and troubleshoot the industrial robots used in die casting (extraction and automated handling), and improve robot routines for cycle time, reliability and quality.
- Ensure correct operation of foundry equipment, including ladles, die sprayers and extractor robots.
- Apply working knowledge of hydraulic systems and machine components to identify faults and support Maintenance.
- Work with Tooling and Engineering to improve die performance, casting consistency and dimensional accuracy.
Quality and continuous improvement
- Verify product quality at start-up, during production and at shift handover against customer and company specifications; read engineering drawings, part prints and casting specifications.
- Investigate defects, process variation and recurring issues with Quality and Engineering, and drive root cause and corrective action.
- Follow all IATF 16949 / ISO quality system procedures that apply to the plant's certification scope.
- Lead Kaizen and 5S activities in your area, and identify, recommend and implement changes that improve productivity and reduce cost, scrap and rework.
Materials and cross-functional coordination
- Monitor materials, consumables and component availability, and alert Purchasing, Materials and Planning early to shortages or bottlenecks.
- Work with Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, Tooling and Logistics to resolve issues and meet customer delivery commitments.
- Plan for current and future production requirements as the plant ramps up.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of automotive manufacturing experience, including substantial hands-on experience in high-pressure die casting.
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment; die casting or metal processing strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of high-pressure die casting machines, casting processes, machine setup, operating parameters and troubleshooting.
- Practical experience with foundry ladles, die sprayers, extraction robots and automated die casting equipment.
- Industrial robotics experience, including programming, teaching and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic systems, machine components and automated production equipment.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, part prints, casting specifications and quality requirements.
- Knowledge of IATF 16949 and lean tools (5S, Kaizen, root cause analysis).
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and SAP or a similar ERP system.
- Secondary school diploma (OSSD) or equivalent; post-secondary education in a technical field is an asset.
- Able to work assigned shifts, and overtime when required during launch and ramp-up.
What we're looking for
- Safety first. You never trade safety for output, and your team knows it.
- Hands-on. You are on the floor, you know the equipment, and you go and see when something is wrong.
- Ownership. You own your shift's results – safety, quality, output and people.
- Leadership. You communicate clearly, coach fairly, handle conflict with respect, and adapt your style to each team member.
- Builder mindset. You are comfortable with change and want to help set up a new plant.
