Original job description

Casual/On-Call | Hourly Rate: $27.94 - $28.73

Are you a maintenance professional who is looking for more meaning in your work?

PARC Retirement Living is an award-winning developer and operator of independent senior-living communities. We’re seeking a Maintenance Assistant to join our Cedar Springs PARC community in North Vancouver.

About working at PARC

PARC communities are made for active seniors; inspiring spaces where our residents come to live well and engage with a vibrant community of like-minded people. Each of our residences is purpose-designed to give residents the freedom to live independently, nurturing their physical and mental well-being.

As a Maintenance Assistant, you are a caretaker of this vision, responsible for a variety of maintenance activities, plus handyman services for our residents. This includes:

Performing maintenance services such as cleaning, painting, plastering, snow removal, minor repairs, basic plumbing and electrical work within established timeframes.
Helping to ensure the overall safety and cleanliness of the building.
Responding to residents’ maintenance requests (work orders) in a timely and professional manner.
Assisting with suite preparation for turnover, including carpet cleaning, painting, furniture moving and other tasks.
Supporting the Building Services Manager as needed, including responding to emergency situations.

The perks of PARC Hospitality

Meaningful work. How many hospitality jobs can say that? At PARC, you’ll be making a positive difference in seniors’ lives, each and every day.
A true living wage. PARC is a Living Wage Certified Employer!
Refreshments while you work. PARC’s chef-prepared cuisine rivals the best in BC, and we offer subsidized daily meals and beverages to employees.
Flexible hours and location. We’re open to scheduling when and where it works for you – with guaranteed shifts every week. PARC has five great locations across the Lower Mainland.
A supportive, diverse team and training opportunities. We believe in giving our people opportunities to advance wherever we can.

It takes a special kind of person to work here – does this sound like you?

You are a pleasant and upbeat professional who brings positive energy to work each day.
You have a high school diploma and a minimum of three years’ relevant experience in the hotel or senior-living industry.
You have successfully completed WHMIS, and possess a Facility Management or Class 5 Power Engineering certification. Completion of Building Services Worker Program is an asset, too.
You have a background in plumbing, electrical, heating, painting, basic carpentry and janitorial work, as well as with building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair. Knowledge of mechanical systems and operations would be an asset, as well.
You have a basic understanding of physical plant operations, maintenance and trouble-shooting of major systems.
You are a critical thinker who is responsive and priority-sensitive; able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
You understand and respect the needs of seniors, their families, and other professional services engaged with our residents.

At PARC Retirement Living we require a Criminal Record Check, and a TB test within the first month of employment.
