Position Summary
The Design Engineer will support our Cylinder Value stream. Collaborating with multiple teams and applying engineering principles to support production orders of Parker’s hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders such as the 2H, 2HX, 2A, VE and 4MA. The Design Engineer will create production ready design packages directly supporting customer orders. In addition, the design engineer will support R&D efforts for new product development of Cylinders and Engineered Systems.
The position will report directly to the Engineering Supervisor and will be based out of the Milton facility. 4 days in-person / 1 day remote
Salary Range: $75,000 - $95,000 annually
Responsibilities
- Hydraulic and Pneumatic Cylinder Design
- Read, interpret and understand customer drawings and specifications.
- Create production drawings detailing product specifications and manufacturing requirements per industry standards such as NFPA and ANSI
- Maintain and update PDM, Bills of Materials, Engineering Change Notice documentation, and traceability of design changes from initial prototype to ongoing production.
- Ensure consistency in product design standards across different product lines while allowing for unique customer requirements and application restrictions.
- Provide technical information for review with product engineering and design review teams. Consistently apply established engineering defined practices, standards, and documentation methods. Contributes to supporting documentation for procedures and technical reports.
- R&D - Create functional diagrams and system layouts, review detailed drawings and schematics, analyze material requirements.
- Adopts lean product development and standard engineering development and techniques.
- Make design proposals and presentations to internal customers.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and work directly with Cx, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Cylinder Value Stream to complete new client orders meeting OTR (customer request dates).
- Support the quote team with pricing of custom cylinders and related systems
- Ensure compliance with all safety practices as per corporate, client, and industry standards.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 3-5+ years’ relevant design and application experience
- P.Eng. Certification an asset
- Certified Fluid Power Hydraulic Specialist an asset
Experience And Skills
- Experience in control systems, Servo and Electro-Hydraulic actuators is an asset
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, 5S+, and Kaizen is a plus
- Demonstrated mechanical comprehension and experience in hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical design
- Must have demonstrated involvement in Design & Product Development
- CAD: Autodesk Inventor and 3D design is a must
- Manufacturing drawings with appropriate tolerance dimensioning techniques.
- Warehouse and Mainframe computer systems
- Hands-on design and testing of pneumatic systems with solenoid valves, positioners and related pneumatic controls
- Must be proficient with databases and spreadsheet applications
- Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to work effectively in a team environment and with minimal supervision
- Must be self-motivated and able to independently research pertinent information
- Must have exceptional organizational skills and written and verbal communications skills
