Original job description

Who We Are

We’re not your typical non-profit. We bring swagger to everything we do. That means we move with purpose in every step, driven by our commitment to putting our community at the centre of our work. Every day, we ask ourselves to see possibilities where others see limits. Because people with Parkinson’s and care partners deserve better. Better care, more inclusive research and access to treatment and support that make living well possible.

Our mission is to empower and inspire people living with Parkinson’s and their care partners to live fully and courageously. Through community support, advocacy, and research, we encourage others to see a diagnosis not as a dimming of light, but a spark for a new beginning.

Move forward. Together. On Mission.

The Role
The Event Coordinator is responsible for organizing and managing a portfolio of peer-to-peer fundraising events, including Parkinson Canada SuperWalk, SuperMom Walk/Run, Pedaling for Parkinson’s, Growling Beaver, and Fundraising Your Way (third-party fundraising), which are primarily aimed at raising funds for Parkinson Canada. This role involves overseeing all logistical aspects of the events, and building relationships with participants, donors, sponsors, and volunteers, ensuring that financial targets are met. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, creative, and skilled at relationship building, with a passion for fundraising.

This is a hybrid role that offers the flexibility to work remotely from your home office, with regular travel required to attend, support, and oversee in-person fundraising events throughout the year.

What You Bring:

Post-secondary degree in appropriate discipline.
Minimum of 2 (two) years of progressive fundraising experience, with a proven track record in event management.
Experience in volunteer management is required.
Familiarity with key event management concepts (maintenance of critical path, etc.).
Demonstrated understanding of sponsorship.
Demonstrated leadership, organizational, budgetary and presentation skills.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent research, analytical and written skills.
Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, Online Event Fundraising Software).
Demonstrated ability to be flexible.
Client service driven with a proven ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders
Ability to travel within Canada
Valid G driver's license required.
Must be comfortable driving a panel van or cube truck for events as required.
Must be able to lift and carry 25-50 pounds.
Must be fluent in French and English.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising Through Participant, Donor, and Sponsor Engagement

Cultivate relationships with participants, donors, and sponsors, ensuring they feel valued and engaged in Parkinson Canada’s mission.
Manage all points of the event cycle for a portfolio of top fundraisers and team captains, from recruitment, goal setting and team building, to fundraising coaching and communicating the impact of funds raised.
Handle participant and donor inquiries and ensure timely and accurate communication before, during, and after events.
Identify and solicit potential sponsors to contribute financial or in-kind support for events.
Collaborate with the Philanthropy team to identify high-capacity event participants and donors.
Work with the Events team to leverage the Convio Luminate and TeamRaiser platforms for optimal fundraiser stewardship and implement fundraising best practices.

Event Planning and Management

Work with the Events team to execute a portfolio of SuperWalk, Pedaling for Parkinson’s, Growling Beaver, and Fundraising Your Way events across Canada.
Implement the annual strategic plan for SuperWalk, Pedaling for Parkinson’s, Growling Beaver, and Fundraising Your Way events.
Work closely with the event management and marketing teams to promote local events through promotional materials, emails, social media, and paid media opportunities.
Manage local event pages, updating them with key information such as route maps, sponsor logos, and event-day agendas.
Lead volunteers and committees as required, with support from the Volunteer Coordinators.
Manage local vendors and supporter relationships.
Organize and lead face-to-face meetings as required.
Hold monthly conference calls with volunteer event coordinators.
Build capacity, including the delivery of volunteer training programs.
Ensure the management of bookings, insurance, and permits as required for events within the portfolio.
Ensure the ordering, preparation, and development of all required promotional and logistical materials. Support the customization and orientation of these materials for events within the portfolio.
Work with other staff to ensure the efficient and timely distribution of materials.
Analyze the success of each event and provide detailed post-event reports, recommending improvements for future events and fundraising efforts.

Contribute to Team Effectiveness

Be a positive ambassador for Parkinson Canada.
Participate in team and staff meetings and provide ideas for improvement.
Share in handling workload to achieve positive results.
Contribute to other projects and initiatives as needed.
Work to build collaborative relationships with all Parkinson Canada colleagues.
Participate in Parkinson Canada's EOS operating framework, including regular meeting rhythms, quarterly priorities (Rocks), and defined role accountabilities.

All Parkinson Canada roles are expected to demonstrate the organization's four core competencies: Evidence Before Action, Solution Focused Problem Solving, Own the Outcome, and Mission in Every Decision. Expectations at each level are set out in our Core Competency Framework.

Compensation: At Parkinson Canada, we believe that compensation should be fair and supportive of your experience and growth. For this role, the salary is between $52,500 - $57,500 per annum. Our salary ranges reflect progression from learning in the role to excelling, with each offer based on skills, experience, and role complexity. We strive for equitable, consistent pay, though rates may vary within the same role based on performance, specialized knowledge, and impact.

Parkinson Canada is firmly committed to diversity within its community and welcomes applications from racialized persons/persons of colour, Indigenous People of North America and the world, persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ persons, and those who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. We are committed to providing equitable opportunities in employment and to providing a workplace which is free from discrimination and harassment. We are equally committed to providing an inclusive and accessible workplace. If you require accommodations, please reach out to us.
