Original job description

Job Description

AI Solutions Engineer – Intellectual Property

➡️ Do you have a strong Intellectual Property background and enjoy solving complex customer problems?

➡️ Have you built with AI, not just used it?

➡️ Want a customer-facing role where you can turn patent and IP challenges into practical AI-powered solutions?

If this sounds like your next move, we’d love to hear from you.

Role Summary

We have an exciting brand-new role as an AI Solutions Engineer to support our Intellectual Property prospective customers.

You’ll work alongside Account Executives and Account Managers throughout the sales process, speaking directly with prospective customers to understand their patent, IP and innovation workflows, uncover what they’re trying to achieve, and design AI-powered solutions around those needs.

This isn’t a role where you simply demo an existing product. You’ll be expected to build and tailor the solution for the customer - using Patsnap’s data, APIs, MCP capabilities and AI tools to create agents, workflows, prototypes and proof-of-concepts that bring their use case to life.

The Brief Is Simple

Understand the customer. Build the solution. Prove the value.

We’re Looking For People Who Can Bring Together

Domain knowledge + customer-facing experience + real AI build capability

A typical day could involve joining several customer calls, running technical discovery, building a prototype between meetings, demonstrating it live to a prospect, refining it based on feedback and, where needed, supporting deployment after signature.

You’ll sit at the point where IP expertise, AI and commercial problem-solving come together. Your role is to understand the customer’s world, translate their requirements into something technically viable, and help prove the value of Patsnap’s capabilities in a way that helps move opportunities forward.

This is not a traditional software engineering role. You won’t be expected to build production software from scratch, but you will need to be technically confident, comfortable building independently and credible in front of enterprise customers.

Want to see the platform you'd be representing?

Check Out This Short Overview

This is a hybrid position in our Toronto Offce, working 1–2 days in the office and the rest from home.

Who are we?

Patsnap is a global, pre-IPO company that transforms the way organizations harness their Intellectual Property and Research and Development productivity. Our platform revolutionizes how IP and R&D teams collaborate across the entire innovation lifecycle, using domain-specific AI to accelerate the creation of market-ready products. With over 12,000 customers worldwide, including some of the biggest names in innovation, Patsnap is at the forefront of technological advancement. Our $300M Series E funding round brings our valuation to a $1 billion unicorn status, and we still have a remarkable amount of growth ahead.

Trusted by thousands of organisations globally, Patsnap helps customers uncover technology landscapes, assess prior art, monitor competitors, evaluate portfolios and make better innovation decisions.

We have a vibrant and diverse team with offices in London, Toronto, Singapore, Shanghai and remote teams based in US. Our hyper-growth trajectory is powered by our people, and we are extremely proud of our company-wide vision, work ethic, and entrepreneurial spirit. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where talent thrives and ideas bloom.

Why Join Patsnap?

Build with AI every day. Create agents, workflows, prototypes and tools that solve genuine customer problems.
See your work make an impact quickly. Build fast, demo live, gather feedback and iterate.
Work with leading IP organisations. Support in-house IP teams, law firms, patent professionals and innovation teams tackling complex IP challenges.
Help shape the product. Bring customer insight directly into Product and Engineering, helping turn individual use cases into capabilities we can scale.
Develop a unique combination of skills. Build your experience across AI, product, customer delivery and Intellectual Property.
Join at an exciting point in our growth. We’re investing heavily in AI and building the next generation of products for IP and R&D professionals.

What You'll Be Doing:

Partner closely with Account Executives and Account Managers to support complex sales opportunities.
Lead technical discovery with enterprise customers, understanding patent, IP and innovation workflows and translating pain points into practical AI solutions.
Build and demonstrate AI agents, workflows, prototypes, integrations and tailored proof-of-concepts using Patsnap’s APIs, MCP capabilities and customer context.
Run proof-of-concept projects end to end, from scoping and build through testing, feedback and iteration.
Configure and deploy AI-powered workflows, Skills, dashboards, reports and automations where appropriate.
Support implementation and deployment following signature, working closely with Product, Engineering, Sales and Customer Success.
Turn recurring customer needs into reusable solutions, playbooks and best practices.
Bring the voice of the customer back into Patsnap, helping shape product feedback and future capabilities.
Maintain strong delivery quality, documentation and data compliance throughout each engagement.
You won’t carry an individual sales quota, but your impact will be measured by the opportunities you help progress and close.

Job Requirements

What We'd Love From You:

There Are Three Equally Important Parts To This Role

Intellectual Property Expertise
Strong professional experience within Intellectual Property, patents or patent intelligence.
You may have developed your experience within a law firm, in-house IP team, corporate patent department, IP technology company or patent data provider.
Strong understanding of IP workflows such as patent searching, prior art, landscaping, portfolio analysis, technology monitoring or competitive intelligence.
You do not need to be a qualified Patent Attorney, but you should be able to speak credibly with experienced IP professionals and understand how they work.
Customer-Facing Experience
Experience working directly with customers or prospects in areas such as pre-sales, solutions consulting, product, implementation, consulting or technical delivery.
Confidence leading discovery and requirements conversations.
Able to explain complex IP and technical concepts clearly.
Comfortable presenting and demonstrating solutions live.
Good commercial judgement: you know when to go deeper technically and when to focus on business value.
Comfortable building credibility with Patent Attorneys, IP leaders, technical specialists and senior stakeholders.
Hands-On AI Experience

You must already have experience building with AI, not simply using LLMs for everyday productivity.

We care less about whether something reached production and more about whether you have personally built, tested and iterated something that solved a real problem.

That Might Include

AI agents or agentic workflows
LLM-powered applications
APIs and integrations
MCP
RAG or data-driven AI applications
Workflow automation
Prompt-based systems
Rapid prototypes or proof-of-concepts

Comfort with APIs, no-code/low-code tools, data and light scripting such as Python is a strong plus.

Backgrounds That Could Fit

You Might Currently Work As a

Solutions Engineer / Solution Consultant
Technical Pre-Sales Consultant
Product Manager / Product Owner
Technical or Implementation Consultant
Business or Product Analyst
Patent Analyst
Patent Intelligence Specialist
IP Consultant
IP Technology Consultant
Patent Search / Research Specialist

We’re typically looking for around 3–4 years of relevant professional experience, although the quality and relevance of your experience matters more than an exact number.

Benefits & Perks

A genuinely strong culture we’re really proud of. High-performing but low ego, social, and dynamic. It’s a team that supports each other, shares best practice, raises standards, and celebrates wins properly together. Alongside a great product, it’s one of the best parts of working here.

Additional Benefits

5 weeks paid vacation (+ 1 day per year of service to a maximum of 30 days)
Comprehensive benefits package for you and your dependents from day one
RRSP Contribution Matching
Access to mental health support
Maternity and paternity leave
2 company paid volunteering days
Life Assurance

Patsnap is proud to be an equal opportunity employer (EOE) that champions diversity. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, national origin, citizenship, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, or marital, veteran/military, or disability status, or any other protected status in accordance with federal, provincial/state or local laws.

Even if you don’t meet 100% of the above qualifications, we encourage you to apply and tell us why you’d be a great fit for this role! If you require any accommodations during the interview process, please email us at recruitment@patsnap.com so we can best support you.
