- Partnering with business stakeholders to gather requirements, understand complex business challenges, and translate operational needs into practical, scalable technical solutions.
- Guiding the development of metadata, business glossaries, data lineage, and ontology-informed structures to improve data discovery, interpretation, governance, and AI readiness.
- Leading data and analytics projects from requirements gathering and solution design through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Providing day-to-day leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to a small team of Data Analysts and Data Engineers, with opportunities for team growth.
- Overseeing the development of scalable data models, certified datasets, dashboards, and reporting solutions supporting large-scale enterprise data environments.
- Collaborating with Data Engineering, IT, Architecture, and business teams to establish reusable data structures, improve data quality, and support enterprise self-service analytics.
- Ensuring solutions meet established standards for data governance, security, documentation, performance, and production readiness.
- Supporting the evaluation and adoption of modern data technologies, including Databricks capabilities, semantic modelling tools, and AI-enabled analytics solutions.
- Providing technical oversight and support for complex production issues, system enhancements, and business-critical deployments, including occasional after-hours support as required.
You have:
- A degree in STEM or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in data analytics, business intelligence, data engineering, analytics engineering, or a related field.
- Experience leading technical projects, workstreams, or small teams, including coaching and mentoring technical professionals.
- Strong SQL and data modelling skills, including dimensional modelling, semantic modelling, analytical structures, and governed business metrics.
- Experience designing or maintaining semantic layers, shared metrics, metadata structures, business glossaries, or other business-context data frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to gather business requirements, engage stakeholders, and translate complex business problems into scalable technical solutions.
- Experience working with large-scale enterprise datasets and modern cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, ideally within a Lakehouse architecture.
- Knowledge of data engineering practices, including data transformation, orchestration, quality assurance, lineage, testing, and deployment.
- Experience with business intelligence and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik.
- Understanding of data governance, security, metadata management, and enterprise data standards.
Preferred Experience
- Databricks, Unity Catalog, Spark, Python, Delta Lake, or modern Lakehouse architecture.
- Power BI semantic models, DAX, certified datasets, and enterprise self-service analytics.
- Ontology design, knowledge graphs, data catalogs, data contracts, or metadata management.
- Generative AI, conversational analytics, AI agents, or other AI-enabled data applications.
- Experience in retail, grocery, or another large-scale, data-intensive business environment.
You are:
- Self-aware, empathetic and possess a high level of Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
- A collaborative technical leader who connects business requirements with scalable data solutions.
- A strong communicator who can explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Analytical and solutions-oriented, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and competing priorities.
