Original job description

Maintenance Technician

Prince George, BC

Pattison Media is looking for an experienced Maintenance Technician to join our Technical Services team in Prince George.

This is a hands-on technical position supporting our radio and television operation in Prince George. We are looking for someone with a strong technical background who enjoys troubleshooting, working with technology, and learning how complex systems work. Broadcast experience would certainly be an asset, but we are equally interested in candidates coming from electronics, telecommunications, IT, networking, audio/video, RF, or other related technical fields.

The successful candidate will support day-to-day operations and participate in equipment installations, system upgrades, technical projects, and the ongoing modernization of Pattison Media's broadcast infrastructure. The position works closely with our broader Technical Services team, which will provide support and help the successful candidate become familiar with our specialized radio and television systems.

What you'll do

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and install radio and television studio and broadcast equipment.
  • Maintain and support radio and television transmission systems, including transmitters, RF systems, and associated equipment.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot audio and video systems, including studio, production, and signal-distribution equipment.
  • Support computers, servers, network equipment, and other technology used throughout the Prince George operation.
  • Support broadcast and production systems, including automation, newsroom, audio, video, and content-delivery systems.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues affecting on-air, production, newsroom, and business operations.
  • Install and commission new technical equipment and systems.
  • Diagnose problems across complete broadcast workflows, from studio and production systems through transmission and distribution.
  • Work with IP networking, server infrastructure, and increasingly IP-based and cloud-connected broadcast systems.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, records, and system drawings.
  • Work closely with programming, news, television production, sales, and other departments to provide reliable day-to-day technical support.
  • Help ensure technical systems follow Pattison Media standards for reliability, cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure.

What we're looking for

  • A graduate of a recognized Electronics Technician, Electronics Engineering Technologist, Broadcast Technology, or related technical program, or a combination of relevant education and practical technical experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to logically diagnose technical and electronic systems.
  • Experience working with electronics, electrical systems, telecommunications, IT, networking, audio/video systems, RF, or other related technical equipment.
  • Good working knowledge of computers, IP networking, and modern IT infrastructure.
  • Comfort learning and working with radio and television studio, transmission, audio/video, automation, and production systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and see tasks through to completion.
  • Ability to work independently while also being part of Pattison Media's larger Technical Services team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with a practical, positive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Comfort working at transmitter sites and other technical facilities as required.
  • A valid driver's license.

Experience we're particularly interested in

Previous radio or television broadcast experience would be an asset, but it is not essential.

We recognize that strong technical candidates can come from many different backgrounds. We are interested in people with solid hands-on experience in electronics, telecommunications, IT and networking, audio/video systems, RF, or other related technical fields. Someone with a strong technical foundation, good troubleshooting skills, and a willingness to learn the specialized systems used in broadcasting could be an excellent fit.

Experience with broadcast automation, production, or newsroom systems would also be an asset. Pattison Media uses systems such as WideOrbit in radio and Broadstream OASYS in television, along with newsroom and other supporting broadcast technologies.

About Pattison Media

Pattison Media is one of Canada's leading independent media companies, operating radio, television, and digital platforms across Western Canada. We continue to invest in modern broadcast technology, IP and cloud-based systems, and new workflows that support reliable multi-platform content delivery.

This position offers the opportunity to work with a broad range of technology. One day may involve troubleshooting a radio studio or computer system, while another may involve television production equipment, networking, servers, or a transmission system.

If you enjoy solving problems, working with technology, and keeping radio and television operations running reliably, we'd like to hear from you.
