| What we are looking for

Inspired by Payments Canada’s central role in the payments ecosystem, its strong brand, its governance model marrying private sector funding to achieve public purpose objectives with government oversight, its experience convening stakeholders, and its deep expertise in complex digital transformation initiatives, Transport Canada is seeking a secondment from our organization through Build Canada Exchange (formerly known as Interchange Canada) to contribute to the Government of Canada efforts to accelerate Canada’s trade digitalization. This would complement ongoing collaboration and advice being provided by Payments Canada on governance and technical matters to help shape and advance this ambitious modernization strategy.

The trade digitalization work is focused on enabling paperless, data-driven and connected cross-border trade through the use of structured data, interoperable systems and consistent digital processes across government and industry. The candidate would be embedded within the team in Transport Canada’s Service and Digital Office responsible for leading this work, where they would focus on the payment component.

| Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide an outside-in perspective to help define payment-related needs and challenges as an enabling capability within the broader digital trade ecosystem and identify practical solution pathways.
  • Provide strategic advice, thought leadership and creative ideas on how payment capabilities could enable and support the future digital trade model.
  • Engage with trade industry stakeholders, federal departments and other organizations to understand existing payment capabilities, dependencies and opportunities to better support the broader trade digitalization work.
  • Assess potential approaches, requirements and considerations for how payment capabilities could connect with and support the future digital trade model.
  • Develop and support the development of a range of materials such as policy/white papers, presentations, and other briefing materials to support decision-making and advance the work.

| Desired Skills / Knowledge / Experience

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of ambiguity
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with demonstrated ability to build trust, influence diverse stakeholders and advance alignment toward shared outcomes.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Fluency in payments digitization with ISO standards.
  • Knowledge of back-end processing.
  • Experience working at the intersection of technology, policy and business requirements.
  • Experience with large scale change initiatives.
  • Experience working with federal departments would be considered an asset.
  • Security Clearance: Secret (or ability to obtain one)
  • Level of education: Undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Bilingualism: Proficiency in English and French would be considered an asset

| Compensation

Salary will be competitive and aligned with the successful candidate’s current compensation structure and experience.

| Selection Process

To ensure minimal operational risk for Payments Canada, the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) will be involved in the selection process. Consequently, prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to transparently communicate and inform their respective leaders of their interest prior to applying.

Payments Canada is committed to developing inclusive, barrier-free recruitment and selection processes, and a work environment that supports our diverse workforce. Please let us know if you require accommodations at any stage of the recruitment process.
