The Opportunity
As PCH Builders continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Accountant to take ownership of accounting for PCH’s development and construction projects. This role is suited to a process-oriented, highly organized Accountant who can set direction, strengthen accounting practices, produce accurate investor reporting, and communicate financial information clearly and professionally.
Reporting to the CFO, you will be responsible exclusively for accounting activities across PCH’s development and construction projects. Your scope includes project accounting, account reconciliations, period-end close, cash reporting, and timely financial and investor reporting. You will also provide direction, review, and day-to-day oversight to two direct reports who currently support bookkeeping and data entry.
You will maintain the integrity of the general ledger, establish clear priorities and procedures, produce accurate schedules and investor reports, identify variances, and ensure transactions are recorded consistently across companies, projects, accounts, and reporting periods. You will work closely with operational leaders to resolve issues, improve controls, meet investor reporting requirements, and keep financial information current and decision-ready.
You will bring a hands-on, versatile approach and embrace AI and practical tools to improve efficiency and reporting.

Core Responsibilities
- Full-Cycle Accounting and General Ledger
- Manage day-to-day accounting transactions and maintain accurate general ledgers in QuickBooks Online for PCH companies and projects.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, prepayments, allocations, intercompany transactions, and correcting entries in the appropriate reporting period.
- Review account activity for completeness, appropriate coding, and compliance with established accounting policies and controls.
- Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Cash Management
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes for PCH projects, including invoice coding, approval tracking, payment preparation, customer billing, cash application, and aging review.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and payables, investigate discrepancies, and coordinate timely resolution with internal teams, suppliers, trades, and customers.
- Prepare weekly cash reporting and short-term cash requirements using current bank balances, expected receipts, committed payments, and operational information.
- Reconciliations, Controls, and Financial Accuracy
- Complete timely bank, credit card, supplier, customer, intercompany, and general ledger reconciliations, with clear supporting documentation.
- Investigate unusual balances, variances, and missing information; resolve issues independently where appropriate and escalate material matters promptly.
- Maintain effective audit trails and support the consistent application and continuous improvement of accounting controls, approval requirements, and confidentiality standards.
- Financial Reporting and Period-End Close
- Lead assigned month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, continuity schedules, variance analysis, and follow-up on outstanding items.
- Prepare accurate recurring financial statements, project schedules, management reporting, and investor reports, including clear commentary on results, variances, cash position, and project performance.
- Support year-end working papers, external accountant or auditor requests, tax filings, and other compliance reporting by providing complete and well-organized documentation.
- Project Accounting, Team Leadership, Compliance, and Process Improvement
- Maintain accurate project- and entity-level accounting records, including job-cost coding, supporting documentation, and reporting schedules.
- Set priorities, establish clear procedures, assign work, and review the accuracy and timeliness of bookkeeping and data-entry activities completed by two virtual direct reports.
- Track relevant supplier and trade documentation, including WCB coverage, insurance certificates, statements, and payment support, and follow up on exceptions.
- Partner with operational teams and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to clarify accounting requirements, improve information quality, and resolve recurring issues.
- Remain hands-on across the accounting function, taking on transactional or junior-level accounting tasks when needed to meet deadlines, resolve issues, or support changing business priorities.
- Design, document, implement, and continuously improve scalable workflows, templates, controls, reporting standards, and system use.
- Adopt and responsibly apply AI-enabled tools to streamline routine work, strengthen analysis, improve reporting, and increase the efficiency of accounting processes while maintaining appropriate review, confidentiality, and control standards.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- CPA Designation: A Canadian CPA designation in good standing is strongly preferred.
- Accounting Experience: Five or more years of progressive accounting experience at an intermediate or senior-intermediate level, including ownership of full-cycle accounting, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Investor Reporting: Demonstrated experience preparing clear, accurate investor reports and explaining project results, variances, cash position, and financial performance to non-financial stakeholders.
- Industry Experience: Construction, real estate development, project-based accounting, or a comparable multi-entity environment is strongly preferred.
- Team Direction: Experience setting priorities, documenting expectations, reviewing work, and providing clear direction to bookkeeping or transactional accounting support staff, including remote team members.
- Systems and Excel Skills: Strong practical experience with QuickBooks Online and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions, formulas, and the preparation of clear financial schedules.
- Technical Accounting and Analysis: Strong knowledge of accounting principles, period-end processes, internal controls, financial statement accounts, and project accounting, with the ability to analyze balances and explain variances.
- Process Orientation and Organization: Highly organized and process-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to establish structure, manage competing deadlines, improve workflows, and follow through consistently with limited supervision.
- Professional Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly, professionally, and concisely to executives, investors, operational teams, and direct reports.
- Hands-On Versatility: A practical, team-first approach and willingness to wear multiple hats, move between strategic and transactional work, and complete junior-level accounting tasks when needed in a growing family-owned business.
- AI and Technology Adoption: Training or practical experience using AI tools is preferred; at minimum, the successful candidate must be willing and able to learn and responsibly adopt AI to improve efficiency, accuracy, analysis, and reporting.
- Judgment and Professionalism: Proactive, dependable, and discreet, with sound judgment, a high standard of accuracy, and the ability to handle confidential financial and business information responsibly.
