Original job description

The future you want is within reach. Let's build it together.

At PCL Constructors Inc., part of the PCL Family of Companies (PCL), we don't just build projects -- we build opportunities, careers and communities. We are 100% employee-owned, every employee has a stake in our success, and that shared commitment drives how we work, grow and lead in the construction industry.

We're a team of builders who care deeply about what we create and who we build with. That includes you. We are not only shaping the future of construction, we are also committed to shaping the future of your career.

As a Costing Manager for PCL Constructors Inc. in Edmonton, Alberta (Corporate), you will apply practical project experience across PCL by helping teams establish effective cost structures, strengthen forecasting and change-management practices, and use our internal project management application, PM4+ Cost Management, with greater consistency and confidence.

You understand that disciplined cost management is more than accurate reporting. It gives project teams the clarity to identify issues early, make sound decisions, and protect project outcomes. This is an opportunity for an experienced construction professional who wants to broaden their impact, remain connected to operations, and build the tools, guidance, and capability that help project teams succeed.

You may be the person teammates turn to when a forecast needs a closer look, a cost structure is not working as intended, or a project needs a practical way forward. You combine sound construction judgment with curiosity, patience, and a service mindset. You can work through details without losing sight of the project outcome, and you are motivated by helping teams build stronger habits and make better-informed decisions.

Why Choose PCL?

Choose a career with rewards that matter. PCL's total rewards are designed to support your growth, well-being and future success -- because when you succeed, we all do. Our offerings could include:

Employee ownership opportunities that build long-term value
Annual discretionary performance bonuses
RRSP, TFSA, Pension Contribution Options
Flexible medical, dental and vision benefits
Prescription drug coverage and virtual care services
Life, AD&D and disability insurance
Paid parental leave and family care support
Health and lifestyle spending account options
Mental health and wellness support, including Employee Assistance Programs
Career growth pathways, leadership development and mentorship programs
Access to world-class training through PCL's College of Construction and professional development courses
Ongoing opportunities to learn new skills, explore different roles and grow your career across sectors and regions

Here's how a Costing Manager for PCL Constructors Inc. within Edmonton NAHQ contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

Support the practice

Provide practical Cost Management guidance and project support across a range of project types, contract models, delivery methods, and construction approaches.
Help teams establish effective cost structures, budgets, cost codes, forecasts, commitments, crew rates, and change-management practices that align with project and contract requirements.
Review project costing approaches and information, including Labor Cost Reports and Project Cost and Forecast reports, to identify gaps, error risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Support risk and opportunity management, including practical use of the opportunity and risk register and the connection between identified risks, forecasts, and project decisions.

Develop people and capability

Coach project managers, coordinators, engineers, superintendents, and other project team members in costing, forecasting, cost control, and change management.
Contribute to designing and delivering training, coaching, and facilitation in the format that fits the need: one-to-one coaching with individual leaders, in-person workshops and sessions with project and district groups, and large virtual events that raise the collective cost-management skillset of PCLers.
Work with district champions and project support to turn experienced builders’ judgment into practical guidance, resources, examples, and decision support for future leaders.

Support PM4+ Cost Management

Provide operational input to the continued development and improvement of PM4+ Cost Management, with emphasis on forecasting, subcontract management, risk and opportunity, and related workflows.
Work with Business Technology, operational stakeholders, and the senior Costing Manager to translate frontline needs and user feedback into clear requirements and practical improvements.
Participate in testing, validation, implementation, adoption, and continuous improvement of Cost Management tools, reports, workflows, and system enhancements.
Support responsible use of approved digital and AI-enabled capabilities where they simplify work, improve access to trusted knowledge, or strengthen project decision-making.

Improve consistency and service

Maintain strong feedback loops with project and district teams so guidance, systems, and support continue to reflect operational needs.
Help standardize Cost Management workflows, documentation, business guides, data, and metrics where consistency adds value, while preserving appropriate flexibility for project and contract requirements.
Build service-focused relationships across operations, ICS, Finance, Business Technology, Professional Development, and other stakeholders.
Identify recurring issues and emerging needs, recommend practical improvements, and coordinate or escalate matters through the appropriate channels.
Travel to districts, offices, and project locations as required to provide operational support, consultation, and training.

Qualifications

8–10 years of progressive construction, project management, or project cost-management experience preferred. Candidates with comparable depth of operational experience are encouraged to apply.
Post-secondary education or training in construction management, engineering, business, accounting, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong working knowledge of project budgeting, cost structures, cost codes, forecasting, cost reporting, project controls, accounting principles, and change management.
Experience supporting costing requirements for lump sum, cost-plus, unit-price, joint venture, or self-perform work. Experience across multiple contract models or construction approaches is an asset.
Hands-on experience reviewing Labor Cost Reports and Project Cost and Forecast information and translating findings into practical actions.
Ability to distinguish between a process issue, learning gap, data-quality concern, and technology opportunity, and to recommend an appropriate response.
Demonstrated ability to coach, train, collaborate, and influence project teams and stakeholders without relying on positional authority.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, facilitation, relationship-management, communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
Ability to balance consistency and governance with practical flexibility for project, contract, and district needs.
Experience contributing to system testing, implementation, adoption, digital workflows, or continuous improvement is an asset.
For Canada-based candidates, Gold Seal certification is an asset.
