Original job description

The future you want is within reach. Let's build it together.

At PCL Constructors Inc., part of the PCL Family of Companies (PCL), we don't just build projects -- we build opportunities, careers and communities. We are 100% employee-owned, every employee has a stake in our success, and that shared commitment drives how we work, grow and lead in the construction industry.

We're a team of builders who care deeply about what we create and who we build with. That includes you. We are not only shaping the future of construction, we are also committed to shaping the future of your career.

As a Senior Costing Manager for PCL Constructors Inc. in Edmonton, Alberta (Corporate), you'll have the opportunity to turn field-tested judgment into scalable practices, coach project leaders through complex cost and change decisions, and help shape the continued evolution of Cost Management in PM4+ (our internal project management application).

You have built projects, led teams, worked through difficult challenges, and learned that disciplined cost management is not an administrative exercise. It is how strong project teams see clearly, act early, and protect the outcome. Now imagine applying that experience across PCL.

You may be the person others call when a forecast does not tell the full story, when a change is not being managed with enough discipline, or when the team needs a practical path forward. You are credible because you have done the work. You are effective because you can teach it. You are ready for a role where your judgment can help many teams build with greater clarity, consistency, and confidence. This is an opportunity for a proven builder who wants to stay connected to operations while influencing how projects across PCL manage change, forecast costs, and develop the next generation of project leaders.

Why Choose PCL?

Choose a career with rewards that matter. PCL's total rewards are designed to support your growth, well-being and future success -- because when you succeed, we all do. Our offerings could include:

Employee ownership opportunities that build long-term value
Annual discretionary performance bonuses
RRSP, TFSA, Pension Contribution Options
Flexible medical, dental and vision benefits
Prescription drug coverage and virtual care services
Life, AD&D and disability insurance
Paid parental leave and family care support
Health and lifestyle spending account options
Mental health and wellness support, including Employee Assistance Programs
Career growth pathways, leadership development and mentorship programs
Access to world-class training through PCL's College of Construction and professional development courses
Ongoing opportunities to learn new skills, explore different roles and grow your career across sectors and regions

Here's how a Senior Costing Manager for PCL Constructors Inc. within Edmonton NAHQ contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

Lead the practice

Serve as a senior enterprise resource for PCL’s costing, forecasting, cost-control, and change-management practices across a diverse range of projects, contract models, and delivery methods.
Maintain practical, scalable cost-management guidance aligned with PCL business guides and project and market needs; address recurring risks and inconsistent practices with enterprise solutions.
Advise leaders and teams on complex cost structures, forecasts, contingency, risk and opportunity, subcontract costs, unit-price and self-perform work, and emerging project-control challenges.

Develop people and capability

Coach project managers, coordinators, engineers, superintendents, and district leaders in cost, forecast, and change management; strengthen onboarding and targeted project and team support.
Design and deliver training, coaching, and facilitation in the format that fits the need: one-to-one coaching with individual leaders, in-person workshops and sessions with project and district groups, and large virtual events that raise the collective cost-management skillset of PCLers.
Work with district champions and project support to turn experienced builders’ judgment into practical guidance, resources, examples, and decision support for future leaders.

Lead PM4+ Cost Management

Provide operational leadership for PM4+ Cost Management, representing project and district needs and helping establish business priorities that align the platform with how teams plan, manage, forecast, and report work.
Partner with Business Technology and PM4+ stakeholders to define requirements, prioritize and evaluate enhancements, and guide implementation and adoption; use project and district feedback to improve usability, efficiency, data quality, and confidence in project information.
Advance capabilities for cost-management setup, budgets and cost codes, labor costing, project cost and forecasting, subcontract management, risk and opportunity, and related workflows.

Influence enterprise performance

Build strong cross-functional relationships across the enterprise, including operations, ICS, Professional Development, Finance, and Business Technology to improve the quality, consistency, and usefulness of project cost and forecast information across PCL.
Travel up to 25% throughout North America to work directly with project teams and district leaders. Occasional temporary project support may be required.

Qualifications

15+ years of progressive construction experience preferred, including leadership and mentoring responsibilities. Candidates with comparable depth of operational experience are encouraged to apply.
Post-secondary education or training in construction management, engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated expertise in project costing, forecasting, cost controls, and change management, including hands-on experience reviewing Labor Cost Reports and Project Cost and Forecast information.
Experience with diverse project types, contract models, delivery methods, and construction approaches. Exposure to both Buildings and Civil or Industrial work is an asset.
Strong knowledge of project-management practices, and accounting principles and processes.
Advanced ability to distinguish a process problem, a learning gap, a data issue, and a technology opportunity.
Proven ability to coach, train, mentor, and influence experienced project leaders without relying solely on positional authority, including confident facilitation of one-to-one coaching, in-person group sessions, and large virtual learning events.
Excellent communication, facilitation, relationship-management, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills.
Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate current practices, build alignment across stakeholders, and convert complex operational needs into practical, adoptable solutions.
For Canada-based candidates, Gold Seal certification is an asset.

Your Work Has Purpose Here

PCL projects are where life happens, where communities connect, careers begin, and progress is made. Regardless of the type of project, we are building something bigger: a future that's inclusive, resilient and full of opportunity.

At PCL Constructors Inc., we are committed to creating a workplace where everyone belongs. We value the diverse experiences, identities and perspectives our employees bring. Employment decisions are based on merit, potential and the drive to make a difference, regardless of race, gender, age, ability or background.

We know everyone's needs are different, if you require accommodation during the application process, please contact careers@pcl.com and include the position and location of interest.

This recruitment process does not involve the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to screen, assess, or select applicants. All hiring decisions are made by human reviewers.
