Original job description

Location: Vancouver, BC (Hybrid/On-site)

Type: Full-Time

Description:

We are looking for a Technical Product Owner to own the pdfpro.com website and customer account section, and to lead our security and compliance work as we grow into larger, multi-seat customers. You will be the single point of contact between the business and our web development team: you gather requirements, prioritize them, and make sure they ship well and on time.

This is a technical role: much of the work involves APIs, integrations, sign-in and billing systems, and you should enjoy digging into the details. The ideal person for this role is very well organized, moves fast, and is a clear communicator, and helps the team get things done.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the web backlog: Gather requirements from customers, support, marketing and leadership, prioritize them, and write clear specs with acceptance criteria for the website, account section, checkout and billing.
  • Keep an eye on competitors: Each month or quarter, generate, review, and present reports on what our competitors have shipped, changed in pricing and launched in marketing, and turn what matters into priorities for our roadmap (AI-Assisted).
  • Deliver with our web developers: Be their day-to-day contact. Plan the work, answer questions fast, test on staging, and decide when it is ready to ship. Projects include building a sophisticated yet elegant and easy to use user management and plan management dashboard, adding cloud-features such as e-sign to our offering, and create a partner portal.
  • Lead security and compliance: Run our compliance program to help gain credibility as an organization, in a pragmatic, minimally bureaucratic manner.
  • Responds to security questionnaires and procurement reviews, and keeps our privacy and security documentation current.
  • Work across the team: Collaborate daily with our Product Designer, developers, QA, Customer Support and Marketing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Product experience: 4+ years as a Product Owner, Product Manager or technical Business Analyst on web or SaaS products, working with outside or in-house development teams.
  • Highly organized: You keep a backlog, several vendors and many open threads on track at once, and nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Fast and pragmatic: You ship the simplest version that solves the problem, then improve it. Cutting scope and saying no are part of the job.
  • On the team's side: You use process and compliance to help us win bigger customers, never as a reason to stop work. You find the way to yes.
  • Technically fluent: You can read API documentation, understand sign-in flows, webhooks and subscription billing, and test a release yourself. You don't need to code.
  • Clear writer: Your specs are short and precise, so developers can build without guessing.
  • Hands-on: You are comfortable owning a function on a small team and doing the work yourself.

Preference will be awarded to candidates demonstrating the following experience:

  • Experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001 or GDPR, or with a GRC platform such as Vanta or Drata.
  • A good understanding of e-signature workflows.
  • Experience with Stripe Billing or software licensing platforms.
  • Experience with business buying: quotes, purchase orders, procurement and security reviews.
  • Experience at a small software company or startup.
  • Desire to automate "busy work" with AI, and leverage it to make themselves more productive only where it makes sense to.
