THE ROLE

As part of the Finance team, the Payroll Manager oversees accurate payroll processing, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and drives continuous process improvement. peopleCare seeks a strategic leader with a passion for operational excellence, team development, and stakeholder collaboration.

Reports to: Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and lead plans of action to support peopleCares strategic objectives, internal controls and efficient processes across the organization.

Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a multi-location, multi-union enterprise, ensuring compliance with government regulations and relevant CBA’s.

Communicates regularly with home leaders and other stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure accurate and timely payroll processing

Lead and support payroll team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
Co-lead change management initiatives related to payroll with the Payroll specialists, promoting adoption of new processes and technologies.
Support internal and external audits and audit payroll data, including earnings, deductions, and benefits, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Investigate and resolve payroll issues, discrepancies, and employee concerns effectively to support the team of payroll specialists.
Optimize and maintain payroll software system ADP WFN and payroll processes in conjunction with the Payroll administrators for enhanced efficiency and accuracy.
Generate and analyze payroll and financial reports, providing insights and recommendations to management.
Oversee year-end payroll activities and accurate administration of benefit deductions, pension contributions, and other entitlements.
Create departmental KPI and monitor performance
Collaborate with the Finance team to insure accurate GL files

Experience & Education Required:

Post-secondary education in payroll, accounting, or related business program
Successful completion of Canadian Payroll Association certification, a designation of PCP or PLP (formerly CPM) (preferred)
Minimum 5 years leadership experience in a multi-location environment, including experience with hourly and salaried payroll
Experience using ADP WFN will be considered a major asset
A strong understanding of collective agreements
