Overview

The Supply Chain Transformation and Engineering team is looking for a Project Engineer to support and lead capital investments for the PFC division, mainly for the Frito Lay Lauzon plant as well as for the Eastern Canada sites.

This role offers the opportunity to take on large-scale projects in a highly automated environment, where food safety, operational performance, and sustainability requirements are essential and non-negotiable.

Reporting directly to the Senior Project Manager for Eastern Canada, the project engineer will play a key role in planning, executing, and optimizing engineering initiatives, while contributing to the region’s long-term investment strategy.

Responsibilities

Project Management and Leadership

Provide comprehensive management of major capital projects, including design, planning, execution and deployment in an automated manufacturing environment.
Oversee a project portfolio that typically exceeds $10MM, ensuring that deadlines, budgets, and quality and safety standards are met.
Mobilize and lead multidisciplinary teams (Manufacturing, R&D, Finance, Asset Strategy, Centers of Excellence, etc.) to ensure that objectives are met.

Strategic Planning and Risk Management

Help define the investment strategy for the Lauzon site and Eastern Canada.
Proactively identify risks related to project costs, timelines, operations, or scope, and develop effective mitigation plans.
Develop and maintain robust project schedules, including baseline plans and acceleration options.

Innovation, Technology and Continuous improvement

Collaborate with vendors, integrators, and technology partners to optimize existing solutions and incorporate relevant innovation.
Define the conceptual scope of new production lines, capacity increases and infrastructure improvements (processes, packaging, warehouses, buildings, utilities).
Promote engineering approaches that support sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental footprint reduction goals.

Financial Management and Governance

Prepare cost estimates, financial analyses and financing documents (ESR, CAR), ensuring rigour and compliance with internal processes.
Develop accurate investment forecasts and ensure rigorous control over expenditures throughout the project lifecycle.
Present funding requests and project updates to internal stakeholders.

Collaboration, Communication and Organizational Culture

Serve as the primary point of contact for engineering activities related to site investments.
Develop and maintain a strong collaborative network that fosters engagement, transparency, and alignment among teams.
Help with the onboarding and mentoring of new project managers.
Be available for occasional weekend work as needed for operational purposes.
Occasional travel (estimated at about 20%).

Resource Conservation (RC) Responsibilities:

Conduct weekly CR rounds, develop action plans and implement corrective actions.
Lead the Lauzon site's Green Team and promote sustainable development and resource conservation initiatives across operations.
Monitor, track, and analyze resource consumption (water, gas, electricity, etc.) using IoTorq, Trend, and other applications to identify reduction opportunities.
Prepare and distribute weekly and periodic reports on CR performance.
Attend national CR meetings and provide updates and recommendations for other sites.

Qualifications

Bilingualism required (English and French), both written and spoken. While this role will work in a French site and interact with coworkers in French, the person will also have to travel nationally to support other sites in Canada (in English) and also participate on national calls with the broader engineering team in English.
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, civil or industrial engineering.
Strong project management skills and considerable project management experience; a professional certification in project management is an asset.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional partners and senior management.
Ability to manage multiple projects, tight deadlines and competing priorities.
Experience in manufacturing engineering (transformation/packaging) is an asset.
