About Percucision

Percucision is a Montreal-based medical technology company developing a next-generation Class II medical device designed to improve how clinicians acquire and use physiological measurements at the point of care.

We are a small, fast-moving team working across mechanical, electrical, software, biomedical, and clinical development as we move our technology from prototype development toward design verification, regulatory submission, and commercialization.

We are looking for a full-time Hardware Engineer who wants to take meaningful ownership of the electronics and PCB architecture of our medical device. The role is centered on hardware design, board-level integration, sensor interfaces, bring-up, troubleshooting, and verification, with firmware used as a supporting tool for hardware development and validation.

Professional engineering licensure (P.Eng./ing.) or eligibility for membership with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) is strongly preferred.

The Role

This is a hands-on electronics and embedded hardware role with significant technical ownership.

You will help lead the design and development of the electronic hardware inside our medical device, from system architecture, schematic capture, component selection, and PCB design through board bring-up, debugging, integration, and verification. Your work will include microcontrollers, power supplies, analog and digital signal chains, sensors, communication interfaces, connectors, and the supporting circuitry required to build a robust and manufacturable product.

A strong ability to read and interpret component and sensor datasheets is essential. You will be expected to translate specifications such as pinouts, timing requirements, electrical characteristics, power needs, communication protocols, calibration requirements, and environmental limits into practical hardware design decisions and validation plans.

You will also work with embedded firmware when needed for board bring-up, sensor configuration, data acquisition, and troubleshooting, but the primary emphasis of this role is hardware and PCB design.

As part of a lean engineering team, you will have visibility across the complete product and contribute to technical decisions that directly influence performance, reliability, manufacturability, verification, and regulatory readiness.

For candidates with professional engineering licensure, the role may also include greater responsibility for engineering review, technical oversight, and professional engineering activities within their area of expertise.

What You’ll Do

Own or contribute directly to electronic system architecture, schematic capture, component selection, PCB design/layout review, and prototype iterations.
Design and validate power regulation, analog and digital circuitry, sensor interfaces, microcontroller connections, communication buses, connectors, protection circuitry, and supporting electronics.
Perform detailed datasheet reviews and translate component requirements into practical circuit design, PCB, integration, and validation decisions.
Bring up and debug prototype PCBs using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, bench power supplies, debuggers, soldering/rework equipment, and other laboratory tools.
Integrate and validate sensors and embedded components, troubleshooting issues across electronics, wiring, firmware, mechanical integration, and test setups.
Use and modify embedded C/C++ firmware and Python tools as needed for board bring-up, sensor configuration, data acquisition, debugging, and automated testing.
Support design verification, engineering reviews, risk management, root-cause investigations, technical documentation, and traceability within a regulated medical-device development process.
Collaborate with mechanical, software, quality, regulatory, clinical, and manufacturing partners to move designs from prototype through verification and commercialization.

What We’re Looking For

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
Ideally 1–5 years of relevant electronics, PCB, or embedded hardware experience. Recent graduates with a Master’s degree in Microelectronics, Embedded Systems, or a closely related field are also strongly encouraged to apply.
Hands-on experience with PCB and circuit design, including schematic capture, component selection, board bring-up, and hardware debugging; experience with Altium, KiCad, or similar tools is an asset.
Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics, power supplies, grounding, signal integrity, sensor interfaces, microcontrollers, and common communication protocols such as I²C, SPI, UART, USB, and BLE.
Excellent datasheet interpretation skills and the ability to turn component specifications into sound hardware design and test decisions.
Comfortable using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, debuggers, soldering/rework tools, and general electronics lab equipment.
Working knowledge of C/C++ and Python for hardware bring-up, sensor communication, testing, and debugging; deep application-software experience is not required.
Strong problem-solving, technical documentation, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
P.Eng./ing. and OIQ membership strongly preferred, or eligibility to obtain professional licensure.
Experience with medical devices, regulated products, or formal design-control environments is an asset.

Bonus

Experience in any of the following would be considered an asset:

Mixed-signal, analog front-end, or low-noise sensor circuit design
Low-power embedded hardware and battery-powered device design
PCB layout, design for manufacturability (DFM), design for test (DFT), and production handoff
EMC/EMI, ESD protection, grounding, shielding, and pre-compliance troubleshooting
STM32, nRF52, ARM Cortex, or similar microcontroller platforms
Bluetooth / BLE hardware integration and RF considerations
Physiological, biomedical, pressure, optical, or other precision sensor interfaces
Signal processing and sensor validation
Hardware-in-the-loop and automated hardware verification
RTOS-based embedded development or firmware debugging
Medical devices or other safety-critical / regulated products
IEC 60601 electrical safety / EMC concepts
ISO 13485 quality-management systems
ISO 14971 medical-device risk management
FDA 510(k) or Health Canada medical-device development environments
Previous responsibility for engineering design reviews or technical approval in a regulated environment
