Original job description

Reports to: Senior Finance Manager

Location: Toronto, Hybrid (3 days/week onsite)

Employment type: Full-time, permanent

Salary range: $55,000–$65,000 per year, based on experience

Role Overview

Perennial is looking for a detail-oriented Payroll and Finance Coordinator to support day-to-day accounting. You will run bi-weekly payroll, process credit card activity, and help with the month-end close by preparing reconciliations, journal entries, and HST returns for review. This role suits someone early in their accounting career who enjoys accuracy and wants to build experience in multi-entity accounting and reporting.

About Perennial

Perennial delivers integrated primary care and wellness services directly within retirement residences, combining on-site and virtual care to meet seniors where they are. By proactively anticipating the needs of older adults, we improve quality of life, reduce unnecessary hospital visits, and ease the strain on the public healthcare system.

Today, we are active in over 29 retirement residences across Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba, with continued plans for growth and expansion.

Our interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and massage therapists works together with one clear mission: to keep residents healthy, active, and comfortable in their own homes.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll

Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time, currently in Ceridian Dayforce.
Maintain payroll records, remittances, and year-end reporting (T4s, ROEs).
Help evaluate alternative payroll systems or outsourced providers.

Credit cards and expense classification

Collect statements and receipts from cardholders and follow up on missing items.
Record transactions in the correct company with the correct HST/sales tax treatment.
Classify spending correctly between expenses and fixed assets under the capitalization policy.

Multi-company accounting

Record intercompany transactions and recharges between entities.
Reconcile intercompany balances monthly and resolve differences.

Month-end close and reporting

Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, and depreciation.
Prepare the monthly P&L for each entity and review posted entries for correct coding.
Help prepare monthly variance analysis against budget and prior periods, including draft commentary for management review.

Cash and reconciliations

Monitor bank and credit card balances daily and flag anything unusual.
Complete monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.

Sales tax

Prepare HST returns for each entity for review and make sure they are filed on time.
Keep supporting records ready for CRA review.

Qualifications

Required

Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll, bookkeeping, or accounting.
Experience processing payroll in Canada, including source deductions and remittances.
Solid understanding of debits and credits, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations.
Proficiency in Google Workspace, especially Google Sheets for reconciliations, tracking, and reporting.
Familiarity with HST.
Strong attention to detail and comfort following up with staff on receipts and coding.
Diploma or degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

Preferred

Experience with Ceridian Dayforce.
Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and able to manage competing deadlines with minimal supervision.
Multi-entity accounting experience, including intercompany recharges and reconciliations.
Enrolled in, or interested in pursuing, the CPA program.
Experience selecting or moving to a new payroll system or provider.

Perennial is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law.

If you are an individual with a disability and require a reasonable accommodation to complete any part of the application process, or are limited in the ability or unable to access or use this online application process and need an alternative method for applying, you may contact careteam@perennialcare.ca for assistance.

We thank all applicants in advance for their interest in this position, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
