Job Summary:
This position reports to the Director, Supply Chain Strategy & Solutions, the Supply Chain (SC) Solutions Engineer is responsible for identifying, evaluating, designing, and implementing operational, technological, and process improvements across Pet Valu's end-to-end supply chain.The incumbent partners closely with Distribution Center Operations, Transportation, Stores, Merchandising, Inventory Control & Quality Assurance, Suppliers, Human Resources, Safety, Finance, Digital, and Information Technology teams to improve productivity, service, inventory flow, safety, quality, capacity utilization, and cost performance.
Through the application of industrial engineering principles, continuous improvement methodologies, analytics, systems optimization, and emerging technologies, the SC Solutions Engineer develops scalable solutions that support operational excellence, supply chain strategy execution, and sustainable business growth.The incumbent prioritizes Safety, Compassion, Expertise, and Efficiency in all they do and lives Pet Valu's Core Beliefs.
Essential Responsibilities:
- SAFETY – Operate in a way that builds trust with our customers, pets, and ACEs.
o Ensure engineering and process improvement solutions prioritize associate safety, ergonomic design, and regulatory compliance.
o Support facility infrastructure programs including storage systems, equipment layouts, racking modifications, and material handling equipment initiatives.
o Participate in operational assessments and recommend engineering controls to improve workplace safety and operational effectiveness.
o Support safe implementation of operational, process, and technology improvements across the supply chain network.
o Promote safe work practices when managing projects involving contractors, vendors, consultants, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- COMPASSION – Communicate and act from the heart with genuine care and courtesy.
o Build collaborative relationships across Distribution Operations, Transportation, Inventory Control & Quality Assurance, Stores, Merchandising, Human Resources, Technology, Digital, Finance, and Supply Chain stakeholders.
o Partner with stores and operational teams to understand challenges and develop practical solutions that improve service, inventory flow, and execution.
o Collaborate with suppliers and business partners to identify opportunities that improve inbound supply chain performance, packaging, product handling, and operational efficiency.
o Facilitate cross-functional workshops, problem-solving sessions, and continuous improvement activities.
o Support change management initiatives through communication, training, coaching, and stakeholder engagement.
- EXPERTISE – Provide knowledge in an understanding and informative way.
Industrial Engineering & Operational Excellence
o Analyze and optimize warehouse processes, workflows, layouts, material flows, inventory storage strategies, and operational procedures.
o Develop and maintain engineered labor standards using accepted industrial engineering and work measurement methodologies.
o Conduct productivity analyses, capacity assessments, workflow evaluations, and resource planning studies.
o Support slotting optimization, inventory flow improvements, facility optimization projects, and operational performance initiatives.
o Establish operational standards, procedures, and performance benchmarks that support consistent execution.
o Collaborate with suppliers to identify opportunities that improve inbound flow, lead-time reliability, shipment quality, and distribution centre efficiency.
Systems & Solution Enablement
o Support the optimization of supply chain technology platforms including Manhattan WMS, ERP, TMS, LMS, WCS, WES, and related systems.
o Partner with business and technology teams to define requirements, design future-state processes, and develop scalable solutions.
o Develop process maps, business requirements, test plans, and implementation readiness documentation.
o Participate in testing, implementation, training, stabilization, and post-implementation support activities.
o Identify opportunities to improve process automation, system utilization, and data visibility.
o Identify opportunities to leverage workflow automation, low-code solutions, AI-enabled processes, and digital tools that improve operational efficiency and decision-making.
Supply Chain Strategy Support
o Support execution of Supply Chain strategic priorities through operational analysis, process design, engineering expertise, and solution development.
o Conduct operational and financial analyses that support strategic planning, business cases, and investment decisions.
o Evaluate opportunities to improve inventory flow, supplier performance, capacity utilization, service levels, and end-to-end supply chain effectiveness.
o Partner with Store Operations to evaluate opportunities that improve replenishment effectiveness, inventory accuracy, promotional execution, and overall store service levels.
o Provide subject matter expertise and analytical support for major operational, technology, and business improvement initiatives.
o Contribute to annual planning, prioritization, and roadmap development activities.
Automation & Innovation
o Evaluate automation technologies, warehouse equipment, material handling solutions, and emerging supply chain technologies.
o Support implementation of robotics, automated storage systems, goods-to-person solutions, and digital enablement initiatives.
o Develop business cases and return-on-investment analyses for operational and technology investments.
o Research industry trends and identify opportunities to leverage automation, artificial intelligence, analytics, and workflow automation tools.
- EFFICIENCY – Use time and resources responsibly.
Continuous Improvement
o Lead Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement initiatives that improve safety, quality, productivity, service, inventory accuracy, and cost performance.
o Facilitate root cause analysis, Kaizen events, process improvement workshops, and value-stream mapping exercises.
o Develop implementation plans, monitor execution, and validate realized operational and financial benefits.
o Support the development of a continuous improvement culture through coaching and knowledge sharing.
o Analyze inventory performance metrics including turns, service levels, product availability, storage utilization, and inventory accuracy to identify operational improvement opportunities.
Analytics & Decision Support
o Analyze labor, productivity, throughput, inventory, supplier, transportation, and service performance data to identify trends and opportunities.
o Develop dashboards, KPIs, scorecards, and reporting tools that support operational and strategic decision-making.
o Perform statistical, financial, and operational analyses to support business recommendations and investment decisions.
o Establish performance benchmarks and measurement methodologies that drive accountability and continuous improvement.
o Translate complex data into actionable insights for operational teams and leadership.
Project Leadership
o Lead and support cross-functional projects from concept through implementation and benefit realization.
o Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, risk assessments, and stakeholder communication strategies.
o Coordinate activities involving internal teams, consultants, suppliers, contractors, vendors, and technology partners.
o Present recommendations, findings, analyses, and project outcomes to operational, management, and executive audiences.
o Manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities in a fast-paced supply chain environment.
Experience, Education and Certifications
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Engineering, Operations Research, Logistics, Business Analytics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5-10 years of experience in supply chain, distribution, warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, industrial engineering, or operational excellence environments.
- Experience leading cross-functional process improvement and operational optimization initiatives.
- Experience with warehouse operations, distribution center processes, or supply chain execution.
- Experience supporting technology implementations and operational system enhancements.
- Experience with labor standards, productivity measurement, workflow analysis, and process improvement methodologies.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Office Suite proficiency.
- Experience with Manhattan WMS preferred.
- Experience with WMS, TMS, ERP, LMS, WCS, and related supply chain technologies.
- Power BI, Tableau, or similar analytical and visualization platforms (statistical analysis methods).
- Process mapping and workflow documentation tools.
- AutoCAD proficiency considered an asset.

- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
- APICS / ASCM certification.
- PMP certification.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform, workflow automation tools, and emerging AI technologies considered an asset.
- Familiarity with Network Optimization Models and Lamasoft software is a plus.
- Familiarity with Labor Management Software is a plus.
Compensation:
The targeted salary range for this position is $92,700-$105,000 annually. The final offer will be based on factors such as market location, relevant skills, experience and internal equity.
