Peter Lucas Project Management invests in people and community to provide gold standard project delivery. We are currently looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our team and support an underground gold block-cave mining operation near Kamloops, BC.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer with direct block-cave experience to join an established underground operation and play an important role in ground control, mine development, rehabilitation, and geotechnical risk management.
Working on a 7 days on / 7 days off rotation, you will have the opportunity to build on your technical expertise while maintaining a strong work-life balance. You’ll work closely with Mine Operations, Mine Planning, Geology, and Technical Services teams to develop practical solutions to complex underground ground control challenges.
This is a hands-on engineering position for someone who enjoys working in the field, collaborating with underground crews, and seeing their engineering decisions directly support safe and efficient mining.
What You’ll Do- Conduct routine underground inspections, damage mapping, and field reviews to identify ground control hazards and assess excavation conditions.
- Prepare geotechnical work packages, including ground support designs, cablebolt layouts, and rehabilitation plans.
- Provide geotechnical input into medium- and long-range mine planning, including sequencing, rehabilitation requirements, and operational constraints.
- Work closely with Mine Operations, Mine Planning, Geology, and Technical Services to prioritize and coordinate geotechnical activities.
- Review mine designs, development layouts, engineering drawings, and work plans to identify geotechnical risks and recommend appropriate ground control measures.
- Interpret geotechnical monitoring data, including convergence scans, instrumentation, inspections, and underground observations.
- Complete stability assessments using empirical, analytical, and observational methods to support ground support and rehabilitation decisions.
- Support implementation and continuous improvement of the Ground Control Management Plan and Cave Management Plan.
- Support seismic risk management and other ground control initiatives.
- Support ground support QA/QC programs, including installation verification, pull testing, resin testing, shotcrete testing, and documentation.
- Assist with geotechnical instrumentation programs, ground support trials, consultant coordination, vendor engagement, and crew training.
- Communicate geotechnical recommendations clearly to technical and operational teams and support effective implementation underground.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
- Experience working in an underground mining environment.
- Strong understanding of underground rock mechanics, ground control, and geotechnical risk management.
- Experience with ground support design, rehabilitation, underground inspections, and geotechnical monitoring.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and mine operations teams.
- A practical, safety-focused approach to solving field problems.
- Experience with block cave or other large-scale underground mining methods would be considered a strong asset.
- Full health and Dental Benefits.
- Recloation Assistance.
- Company Pension Matching.
