Original job description

PETRONAS Canada is one of the largest natural gas resource owners in Canada. We have operations in the Montney play in northeast British Columbia and are a partner in LNG Canada. As part of PETRONAS, a dynamic global energy group with presence in over 100 countries, we are well-positioned to provide global markets with responsibly-developed Canadian energy while supporting local jobs, collaborating with Indigenous communities and protecting the environment.

At PETRONAS Canada, we are committed to building Canada’s energy future – and people are fundamental to our success. We foster a culture of open collaboration and empowerment across our team of skilled professionals, while supporting career development opportunities. We are looking for can-do problem solvers to join our team who are innovative and passionate about driving strong safety, operational and sustainability performance in everything we do. Our unique culture and commitment to growth makes the company a great place to build your career.

THE ROLE:

PETRONAS Canada is a great place to launch a career that is enriched with knowledge, technical skills, and mentorship. Our summer student program provides an opportunity to experience real-world challenges, collaborate with diverse teams, network with other students, and create a vision for your future career path.

Working with our Governance, Risk & Controls team in Calgary, this will be a full-time student position from May through August 2027 within the Operations Assurance team. During your summer, you will gain exposure to the energy industry by attending sessions hosted by subject matter experts and will have an opportunity to showcase your learnings with your student network. You will work with operational and corporate teams to review how key controls are applied, organize and assess supporting evidence, track actions, and prepare clear reports and dashboards. We are looking for a curious, organized student who can work with detailed information, ask practical questions, and contribute to meaningful improvements. Expand your potential with us!

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:

Support assurance reviews by reviewing documents, collecting evidence, preparing interview questions, and documenting testing results
Review documents, records, and data to assess whether operational and HSE requirements are being followed and controls are working as intended
Document testing results clearly and support the preparation of findings, recommendations, and assurance reports
Maintain the assurance tracker, including findings, action items, owners, due dates, and closure evidence
Analyze assurance results and action data to identify trends, repeated gaps, overdue items, and improvement opportunities
Create and improve reports, presentations, Power BI dashboards, and other digital tools used to communicate assurance results
Work with operational departments to follow up on evidence, clarify information, and support practical process improvements

WHAT YOU BRING:

Actively enrolled in an Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Data Analytics, or related undergraduate program in Canada and returning to studies after the work term
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with Microsoft 365, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
Familiarity with Power BI, AI/Copilot, or other analytics and automation tools is considered an asset
Ability to review detailed documents, records, and data and summarize key information clearly
Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and comfort asking questions and following up with others
Interest in operations, HSE, assurance, risk management, data analysis, and continuous improvement; exposure to oil and gas or industrial operations is considered an asset

Job postings are typically only open for applications for one week so please submit your resume, cover letter, and transcript today.

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN OUR TEAM:

Flexible work arrangements which include a compressed work week with Friday afternoons off for office-based roles
Dress for your day - a casual yet professional environment
Meaningful, challenging and rewarding work experience, relevant to your field of study
Learn from knowledgeable mentors who will provide you with insight into what it will be like to work in your chosen career
Ability to contribute to a dynamic organization with large growth ambitions
Competitive compensation
Work for a company that is making a positive difference in our communities through volunteerism, community support and providing opportunities to those in the areas where we work

PETRONAS Canada would like to thank all applicants for their interest in joining our team; however only the candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.
