Original job description

About Pine

At Pine, we're on a mission to transform one of Canada's largest financial industries. Buying a home should be exciting - not stressful. That's why we're reinventing the mortgage experience from the ground up with intelligent technology, automation, and exceptional customer experiences.

Since launching, Pine has become one of Canada's fastest-growing fintech companies, managing billions in mortgage volume while building products that make home financing dramatically simpler, faster, and more transparent.

We're proud to have been recognized as one of LinkedIn's Top Startups in Canada for the past two consecutive years, a reflection of both our rapid growth and the incredible team that's building the future of homeownership.

Backed by some of North America's leading venture capital firms, we're building a world-class engineering organization that embraces innovation, ownership, and speed. We believe the best ideas can come from anyone, and we're looking for people who are excited to solve meaningful problems using modern technologies.

About the Role

As a Full Stack Developer, you'll play a key role in designing, building, and scaling the technology powering Pine.

You'll work across the entire product stack - from customer-facing experiences to the backend systems that power our platform - helping deliver products used by thousands of Canadians.

Our technology stack includes:

Frontend: React, Next.js, TypeScript
Backend: Kotlin, Postgres, AWS
Modern cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines
AI-powered tools and workflows integrated throughout our engineering organization

This is an opportunity to work in a fast-moving startup where your contributions have an immediate impact on both the product and the business.

What You'll Do

Design, build, test, and deploy high-quality full-stack applications
Develop modern, responsive user experiences using React and Next.js
Build scalable backend services and APIs using Kotlin
Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Engineering to deliver exceptional customer experiences
Participate in technical architecture, planning, and system design discussions
Contribute to our shared component library and frontend architecture
Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code
Perform thoughtful code reviews and mentor teammates through constructive feedback
Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve application performance and reliability
Help shape engineering best practices, tooling, and development workflows
Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity while maintaining high engineering standards
Explore opportunities to incorporate AI-powered capabilities into our products and internal platforms

What We're Looking For

Experience building modern web applications in a professional software engineering environment
Strong experience with React, Next.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript
Experience developing backend services with modern typed languages (Kotlin, Golang, C#, Java, Rust)
Solid understanding of API design, distributed systems, and scalable application architecture
Experience working with Git, pull requests, and modern CI/CD workflows
Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, responsive design, and frontend performance optimization
A passion for writing clean, maintainable, testable code
Experience with automated testing and quality assurance best practices
Strong problem-solving abilities and a continuous improvement mindset
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
Experience working in agile product teams and thriving in fast-paced startup environments
Experience working with AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex in software development workflows

Bonus Points

Experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) or AI APIs into production applications
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS
Experience building fintech or other highly regulated software
Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and performance optimization tools

Why You'll Love Working at Pine

Join one of LinkedIn's Top Startups in Canada for the second consecutive year
Build products that are transforming one of Canada's largest industries
Work with modern technologies and infrastructure including Next.js, Kotlin, AWS, GCP, and AI-powered development tools
Collaborate with a highly talented and ambitious engineering team
Make meaningful technical decisions with significant ownership from day one
Competitive compensation, equity, and comprehensive benefits
A high-performance culture that values curiosity, continuous learning, and innovation

Our Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

At Pine, we're committed to building an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. We know that diverse perspectives lead to better ideas, stronger teams, and more innovative products.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, experiences, identities, and abilities. If you require accommodation at any stage of the recruitment process, please let your recruiter know - we're happy to work with you to ensure an accessible and equitable experience.
